Evaluation of the Humane Society of Indianapolis Introduction Humane Society at Indianapolis has been at work for the last one hundred and five years and though it started as an organization that intended to help both human and animals in need, is now solely focused on humane treatment to pets, especially dogs. As a part of their activities, they provide shelter to animals, and provide effective behavioral training to animals that are in their shelters and also to animals that their owners bring for such training. Such training is also imparted to animals that have not yet been adopted but are eminently adoptable. Such a huge activity can only be possible through unstinted cooperation from all interested individuals and the Society pays utmost regard and is eager to embrace any form genuine cooperation. This allows the Society to reach to all sections of the society irrespective of what class, creed or ethnicity such individuals hail from. This not only gives the Society a more inclusive character but also ensures a more democratic outlook. As it strives to become inclusive it also realizes that integrity and honesty of purpose are the two basic foundation stones on which the very existence of the Society is crucially dependent upon. All members are serious about what they do and there is no pretence in any of their actions. They stick to plain truth and never hesitate to share it with pet owners no matter how bitter that truth might be. This basic sense of integrity automatically creates an almost blind sense of faith in the minds of the pet owners and they completely abide by the advice given by the Society in nearly every occasion. As the society depends on private donations by individuals and on the fees it earns through services rendered, it is not legally liable to present its accounts periodically to some governmental or national authority. This puts additional responsibility on the Society to maintain absolute transparency in its financial transactions so that its otherwise extremely laudable efforts are not sullied by allegations of financial impropriety (About Us, 2011). Criteria 3 That the Society is serious about its efforts to improve the lot of pets in Indianapolis is evident from the wide range of services it offers to pet owners.
