Education Assignment Questions: Module 6 Question Decision-making model that is the most useful to practicing administrators? The most useful decision-making model for practicing administrators is the optimizing model. It is also known as the classical model and it is the best for decision-making because it assumes that decisions made are all rational. For practicing administrators, this model is useful because it only utilizes the best alternatives in maximization of set goals. The administrator is in the best position to recognize the problems that he or she faces and gets the chance to define the problems (Chapter 9 Power Point, 2015).

Problem-solving occurs in steps which makes decision-making easy for the administrator (Bertocci, 2009).Question 2: Five steps of the Administrative (Satisficing) Modela. Step 1: Take note of the problem and define it. It involves knowing the short-term and long-term problems.b. Step 2: Examine the difficulties that are existing in the situation (Chapter 9 Power Point, 2015). In this step, the administrator has to classify the problem and two main mistakes to get the facts.c. Step 3: Come up with a criteria that gives a satisfactory outcome.

In this step the administrator has to identify what is good, the musts and the wants, the conditions existing and the minimum aims to achieve (Chapter 9 Power Point, 2015).d. Step 4: Come up with an action plan or strategy. In this stage it is important for the administrator not to make an ineffective decisions. It is also important not to make decisions that others are likely to make.e. Step 5: Instigate and assess your plan of action. This is the last step that the administrator should take to communicate with the employees about their tasks, monitor and appraise them.

Question 3: Can administrators optimize or must they satisfice? In my opinion, administrators must satisfice because when they optimize, the solution to the problem that they identify does not necessarily provide a feasible solution. Hence, the administrator has to satisfice and come up with the problem to satisfice.Question 4: Is the Garbage Can Model useful? Yes, the garbage-can model is useful despite its name. Under this model, one knows that they have made the right decision when the solution matches with the problem at hand.

Administrators also have the chance of scanning the problems and opportunities that help in their job (Chapter 9 Power Point, 2015). The only problem is that the model operates on the assumption that decisions are reliant on the chances that occur and not on choices the administrator makes.Question 5: Explain how your values are a part of your decision-making.Values are a part of decision-making because they are the key to motivating a person. When a person is motivated and not stressed, it becomes easier to make the right decisions which people can use in attaching their meaning and importance to things (Hellriegel, 2008).

I would use my values to negotiate or use persuasion before arriving into final decisions. I would use my positive personal values to determine the outcomes that I set for myself and the decisions I would make to achieve these outcomes.Question 6: What are the four issues a vigilant decision maker should consider before making a decision?Vigilant decision makers are effective in what they do because they always consider four issues before arriving at their final decisions. One a vigilant decision maker asks if there are serious risks to take (Chapter 9 Power Point, 2015).

The second consideration is whether the risks taken are serious or if the losses are reduced. The other issue is whether the vigilant decision maker has the time to search for more solutions. In the event that there is more time available, the decision maker gets the chance to plan and engage in data processing. Lastly, a vigilant decision maker has to find out whether there are realistic solutions for the problem.Question 7: Why is it important for teachers to participate in decision-making?

To avoid getting disappointments from subordinates, it is important to have teachers participating in decision-making. Teachers should get involved in decision-making as a way of giving their views of the changes they would want in the school (Chapter 9 Power Point, 2015). However, it is important to note that like all the employees in an organization they should not get too involved or involved only too little.Question 8: Difference between recognition heuristic, availability heuristic, representative heuristic, and anchoring heuristic?

Availability heuristics refers to the tendency where a decision maker makes his or her judgments based on data that is already within their reach (Chapter 9 Power Point, 2015). Representative heuristic is the tendency of the decision maker to view other people as a stereotype based only on the data they possess.Anchoring and adjustment heuristic refers to the information used as a reference point for the decision maker to come to a conclusion (Chapter 9 Power Point, 2015). However, decisions get adjusted when there is more information.
