Athens State Information Systems and Information Technology Technology has brought great transformation not only in business but also in today’s education system. The traditional classrooms of bricks as well as mortar are long gone. The college students has also been modernised by technology whereby they only need a computer and have access to internet in order for them to access class sessions. Technology has replaced the old college classes to digital classroom. Athens State University is one of the Campuses that have adopted the use of technology in delivering services to students. This paper discusses some of the information systems found on the campus. The 3 areas that Athens is doing well under the IT/IS are as follows; Student Advising Module (SAM) Student Advising Module is an element that is provided by Athens State University through Banner. SAM is the students’ official plan of the study which gives students chances to view courses according to year. It also allows the students to view unofficial transcripts, degree plans as well as grades from the courses completed recently. SAM’s applicability is matter to the accurateness of the academic history of students as well as the programs that are installed in SAM. It allows the students to receive the updated transcripts regarding the raises as well as promotions after completing the degrees or courses. This means that the student’s gets information directly after the instructor posts the grades. The degree planner offers students guarantee for course work pertinent to degree plan as well as the updated grade for expected graduation (Athens State University, 2014). SunGard Banner SunGard Banner has utilized by the Athens State University. It has helped the University in analyzing, measure as well as improves academic programs and student victory projects. This is an automated self service software package that connects the whole institution. Banner provides services such as registration access, account information, and needs of course material and individual information control ability to students of Athens States University. This system assists the students who in few years ago had to travel to the institution in order to get and fill the forms, and move from one campus to another in order to finish the required tasks. All the campuses in the world should provide their students with the Banner system in order to provide the convenient environment. Banner system provides cost as well as operational savings for the Athens State University. In regards to this, it carries out more transactions devoid of augmenting staffs. In addition, it reduces cost such as paper cost and postage cost (Klimczak, 2006). Safe Assign Athens State University utilizes Safe Assign which is a tool that is provided by Blackboard in order to prevent plagiarism. The service provided by this tool is to discover any information that is not original or substance in form of papers that is surrendered by the students in the University. The Safe Assign system is made up of a rating system which gives an identical percentage score for the work surrendered to any other resource. This system is of great importance and has positive objectives. Nevertheless, the problems that come along with such systems can regularly lead to a heart attack for student. False positives as well as flags with certain idioms that appears for genuine reasons occurs as the high percentage as well as the incorrect connections to sources that are given by Safe Assign. This system is provided to all Blackboard customers with no extra cost. Athens State University continues to use the Safe Assign but they should not let it have the final judgement on papers provided by the student (Safe Assign, 2013). The 3 areas that need to be rectified under the IT/IS are as follows; Tegrity Tegrity is software that is assists students in capturing lectures. It is available in campus and the Athens State University supports it. This software is used by students in recording video, audio as well as screen activities from an e podium or personal computer. As the recordings are uploaded, they can be viewed by everyone associated with the course or enrolled. This is an expensive method of getting information. It is also not a secure since it can be viewed by anyone enrolled for that course and can be deleted. This system should be improved to make it personal in order to make it secure. On-premise On-premise is one of lecture capture model. This system places all the needed delivery hardware as well as software on campus. Despite the system offering the high level of control that is sought by many campuses, the model relies only on the university IT department for its operation. The system should be improved in order to avoid centralized control such as peak usage monitoring as well as system management. This can be a vital undertaking for the students in Athens State University. Cloud-based This system is also known as Software as a Service (SaaS), the system utilizes an exterior trader to deliver the service. This system eliminates the need for hardware to be housed on the University. The service of this system is delivered by a robust infrastructure where internet users can access it. Despite the system offering scalability, management, operational efficiency as well as costs that are predictable, the system is insecure since it can be accessed by anyone who has internet. The system should be improved in order for the campus to be in a position to deliver the service directly without relying on an outsider (Clara, 2014). References Klimczak, J.C. (2006, March 13).
