If you get a good wife, youll become happy; if you get a bad one, you will become a philosopher”- Socrates The word philosophy literally translated means ‘love of wisdom’. However, if taken in the literal sense, then almost all other subjects can be said to be of the same nature, as they too show us the way of gaining new knowledge and wisdom. So, what makes philosophy stand apart from the humanities, and the sciences? For this we need to take a long walk down the history, and start our journey from the shadows of the antiquities, where we seek to find the origins of philosophy, and then walk down the course of the entire human civilisation, to observe its... ...on even the minor aspects of the first day, starting from the dress to the delivering of a lecture. According to Harry Wong, it is the teacher’s attitude that determines the level and quality of response received from the students. He states that, ‘Students tend to learn as little or as much as their teachers expect.’ Provided that the teacher has an encouraging and positive attitude, the students too will portray their best. It is therefore important, not to expect too little nor too much from them. However, at the same time, it is in the first class that she can create a proper class environment, laying down certain expectations that will be expected of them. He states that the three...

Things I've Learned About Photography
...Photography The aperture adjusts the extent of the lens opening. As the size changes, both the image light and the depth get affected. The aperture can be opened or closed to let in more or less light. It can either make your background sharper or blurrier (Busch 2011). Shooting a landscape may require a smaller aperture for your background and foreground to be sharp. For a portrait, a larger aperture gets preferred to decrease the depth for the face to appear sharp. To adjust ones aperture, the camera needs to be switched to the manual mode. How a subject looks in a photograph may be different from how it appeared as the picture was taken. When looking at a scene, everything in it may seem more or less sharp, though sometimes... Three Things I Can`t Live without English 16 October Thankful for Three Looking back at my life to assess what is most valuable to me, I have come to realizethat it is not the material things and accomplishments that keep me going. Three things I have learned I could never live without are the true love of my family and friends, my dignity, and the fond memories of lost loved ones. This realization has helped me realize that life is about relationships and principles, and not ambitions and wealth. If I am stripped of my job, my home, and all of my assets, I will still have what is most dear to me –...

...Here Here Here Here The Anxiety of Embarrassment When I was asked to write a paper about things I dislike and to present the ideas to the class, I couldnt help but to chuckle. In a rare example of true irony in life as Ive experienced it, I would soon be giving a presentation about my hatred of giving presentations. After recovering from the initial panic and giving the idea some consideration, I realized that this would be the perfect opportunity to learn more about the reaction, instead of ignoring it as usual. Perhaps, by understanding some of the reasons that I despise giving presentations,...

How I learned to sweep analysis
..., when the mother instructs the girl always squeeze bread to ensure that it is fresh, she (the girl) asks, “but what if the baker wont let me feel the bread?” (Kincaid par. 1). Together with the tone that the mother uses, the conflict between mother and daughter come to the fore. Personal Reflection “How I Learned to Sweep” by Julia Alvarez is an poem that talks about the things that happen ordinarily in life in a way that captures the mind of the audience. Written in simple language, the piece makes good use of literary devices such as metaphors, similes, consonance, and alliteration. The short story “Girl” by Jamaica Kincaid is an equally interesting piece of literature. Girl is particularly interesting given the tone... Analysis of...

10 things you learned about American history
...on slavery. 4. I learned that from the start the concept of equality was important for the USA. The Civil War became the major conflict caused, among other factors, by the different views on the principles underlying the structure of the society, namely the belief that all men were born equal. The Civil War was the largest military conflict in the history of the country at the time. It was the first occasion when hostilities started because the nation itself was divided and not as a result of the aggression from the outside. For me the Civil War is significant because it led to the abolishment of slavery and the establishment of the society we know today. 5. I learned...
