Electric Cart Deign This is report 3 section that outlines the design of the electric cart being designed. The parts of this section will include a set of working drawings to show each component as well as an assembly drawing to show the way the electric cart will be assembled. The assembly drawing will also include appropriate detailed and sectional views, which reveal the way the assembled parts fir together. In the report, there will be also a parts list that will outline all components as well as the number of these components that will be used in the design of the electric cart. Provided in this project is a list of available components. The objective of the project is to design, develop as well as build an electric cart for transporting a load to a given distance. The components provided are motor, batteries, battery holder, gears, chain and brass rod. The deliverables in this report will be a minimum of three concepts generated and presented in sketch form to represent the layout of the electric cart. In these sketches, the physical location of the temetry unit, ballast, motors and wheels will be located. Out of the three selected concepts, the most appropriate will be selected using a reasoned argument that explores the disadvantages as well as advantages of each. Finally, an engineering drawing will be created to convey the important sizes of the selected scheme. The concepts of the Electric Cart Layout This section will include the sketches of the different concepts that can be used as the layout of the electric cart. The working of the electric cart There are conditions or standards that the electric cart has to meet. One of these is that it must carry ballast whose weight is 1 kg maximum. As it carries this load or ballast, it must do it for a distance of 5 m and it must do it as fast as possible. The electric cart also has to be able to maintain a reasonable amount of speed so that it accomplished the task as fast as possible. It must also demonstrate the ability of being quick and energy efficient. It must be made from materials that make it as cheap as possible. During the task run, the electric cart has to be able to start and stop. The electric cart also has to appear in a particular way, in this case streamline-like. There are three main components of an electric cart. These are battery, electric motor and switch. The battery consists of the base of this electric cart. There are three batteries in this case. Each battery is 1.5 V . a total of 4 batteries are going to be used to run two motors that are 6 voltage each. in this cart, the controller is just a usual switch having an ON position when the cart is accelerating and an OFF position when the cart is decelerating. The electrical circuit of a cart is a closed circuit having an independent source of power or battery. The current in this circuit flows a long one cable from the batteries connected in parallel or series to the switch and then back to the battery through the metal body of the cart. A thick cable connects the body of the cart to the earth terminal of the battery. In this case, amperes are used to measure the strength of the current. The pressure driving this current around the circuit is called voltage. A drop in the voltage of the battery will lead to flow of less current and in the end, there will be no enough current to make the motor work. This brings in the importance of selecting the best circuit to adopt. The circuit in this case includes two motors. It matters whether these circuits are connected in parallel, side by side or in series, one after the other. The motors in this case are designed to run at 6 voltage. If the batteries are connected in series, it means that the electric current will flow through one motor before getting to the other. The design in which these batteries are connected in series means that the current flowing through the motors will encounter resistance two times. The double resistance in this case will mean that the current will be halved. Therefore, the motor will run slowly. Connecting the batteries in parallel implies that electricity will go through the batteries only once. Concept Drawing 1. The ballast will be placed on top of the cart. The chances of ballast rolling around in a cliff is high, hence increasing the potential of making the cart topple over. 2. At the front side of the electric cart, there is only a single front wheel. This also increases the chances of the electric cart toppling over. 3. The rear wheels in this electric cart are located to the inside from sides of the cart, making the cart to be more prone to toppling over and reduce the space that the internal components at the rear part of the electric cart. 4. The unit that holds the ballast is currently set close to the electric cart’s front wheel. This implies that the distribution of the weight is uneven and the weight leans towards one wheel and one axel. The chances of the electric cart to topple over are high. Severity Index 1. The fault will not be noticed or be a concern of the customer. 2. The customer will complain because of the fault. 3. The electric cart will not carry out its role efficiently because of the fault. 4.
