ID # Interaction Design Problem Introduction Interaction design is an area and a process that incorporates the fundamental aspects of system design that involve designing a system in a systematic and comprehensive way. The main failing of most design procedures is that they do not observe the worth of communications with user who is the fundamental question of an effective and a great deal more interactive system design. The majority of researchers and system designers have the same opinion that a high-quality software or system design involves clean breakdown of the issues and problems into manageable process modules, as well as the efficient collection of these modules in a suitable chain of commands (Scribd; Cunningham & Cunningham, Inc.). In addition, the software design effectiveness from the client’s viewpoint is greatly concerned with the user interface. In this scenario, the system or software user interface is the screen connections and designs among operational screens that permit the client to communicate with the application. Hence, it forces software developers to produce products that convene the requirements of the users. In fact, the software that convinces the requirements of uses is taken as a more user friendly system (Harish). This paper will analyze some of the major interaction design related problems in technology based systems. At the present, system developers are paying a great deal more attention on interface design however in this situation there are also some issues still present in some extensively engineered systems. In this scenario, the basic aim of this research is to assess and analyze Facebook’s Timeline interaction design problems. In this paper, I will discuss some of the major issues and interaction design problems with Facebook Timeline. This research will also highlight some the basic issues in a less software based application. For this purpose I am going to assess and analyze the interaction design problems in the automated navigation system. Facebook Timeline Interaction Design Problem In this scenario, it is assessed; that Facebook can soon be altering its new beacon web based social network feature that shares user’s personal details (if we are not discovering it personally) through 3rd party websites outside the Facebook. In this scenario, the main interaction design issue is about the Facebook timeline interface. In Facebook Timeline interface people need to work themselves into frenzies regarding privacy and in danger to deactivate. A small number of people really did, and eventually the Newsfeed turned into one of the the majority dynamic (as well as addicting) constituents of the entire Facebook web based social network (Krause; Brown; Mueller). Additionally, the Facebook Timeline idea encompasses a number of flawed aspects regarding user interaction. In this scenario, because of user interface, privacy, or anything is yet remotely technical. In addition, the challenge is very straightforward people, and their web based characteristics have changed. In fact, the Timeline, by getting and classifying all of our past posts and activities on the website, stops us from ever cutting loose and starting over (Krause; Brown; Mueller). Figure 1 Facebook Timeline Exposing all Posts Formerly, we could alter our profile picture. We could delete some items that tacky album we posted online during freshman orientation. However, if we did not dynamically delete our web based content, our drunken photos, activity, midnight rants, jokes faded away with time. However, with the Timeline Facebook interface we have all these contents back to user’s notice. In addition, by using the new Timeline Facebook feature, all contents that we previously posted is back. Moreover, if we have been still partially active on Facebook for the previous few years, there is just too much of it to probably delete manually (Krause; Brown; Mueller). Figure 2 Timeline Previous Details Panel Moreover, this is one of the biggest personal user privacy issues that degrades the user interface features. The main interaction design issues are the absence of any button that can be used for simply “Delete the Entire” Facebook activities. This aspect is really problematic that our coworkers, friends from middle school, extended family and all our web based associated Facebook community can see everything we have done in the past. These can be some non-professional pictures with our friends from middle school, and these pictures are not really sharable with our new professional looks and co-workers. Additionally, with a single click, our boss can jump to 2005 and be engrossed in our teenage melodrama. In addition, the person we are dating is able to jump to the year of our last association and can see exactly what we posted to our previous lover. Certainly, we could access these old posts previous to the Timeline, however it was a great deal harder, and most people did not try to do that (Krause; Brown; Mueller). Figure 3 Story Hiding Support The only support offered by the Facebook Timeline interface is the story hiding facility that offers user to hide the specific story from viewers. This is good support but not applicable if we want to hide the previous stories and posts of the 4 years. So this user interface lacks one of the major interface design functionalities that really need to be deleted or hidden some time period based user interface and communication on the web (Krause; Brown; Mueller). Interaction Design Problems in Sony Smart Navigation System This section discusses some of the important interactive design problems with respect to automobile navigation systems developed by Sony Co. Ltd. The website of this system is: http://www.everychina.com/sp-z405d6d/supplier-gps_car_navigators-10770.html. This system is called 4.8" Portable Navigation System NV-U83T. Figure 4 Sony System, Image Source: http://www.everychina.com/sp-z405d6d/supplier-gps_car_navigators-10770.html At the present, automotive based navigation systems have turned out to be a supportive technology, on which numerous drivers depend. In fact, such navigational systems are either straightly integrated in the automobile or they come as an additional functionality, similar to dedicated PNDs or portable navigation devices. These systems are also available in the Smartphone software application (Hipp, Schaub and Kargly). Figure 5 Navigation Process, Image Source: http://www.everychina.com/sp-z405d6d/supplier-gps_car_navigators-10770.html Additionally, there are many interactive design based issues and problems in automobile navigation systems such as SONY’s system. For example according to the research work of (Hipp, Schaub and Kargly), portable navigation devices have a number of indicative system design issues. It is assessed that Sony Portable Navigation System NV-U83T has a major interaction bottleneck as long as drivers follow such system’s directions, however fail in deviating circumstances. On the other hand, when the driver leaves the calculated route assessed by such navigational systems, all types of navigational devices show interaction weaknesses. In addition, they present some cryptic commands (turn left, then left) frequently, without handling the real issue to the driver, for example that the driver left the intended route. However, these activities are preferred in a number of situations when the driver leaves the planned through an accident; it turns out to be an irritation in circumstances where the driver performs on purpose (PortableGPSSystemsReview; Hipp, Schaub and Kargly). Moreover, Sony Portable Navigation System NV-U83T is not effective enough to handle all kinds of situations. It is assessed that basic problem and the cause of such issues is the lack of interactivity regarding driver and route. However, vendors continuously work to enhance routing performance, and display methods (for example text to speech), what is absent in these days portable navigation devices are information exchange loops between device and driver. There is another interactivity based issue in Sony Portable Navigation System NV-U83T that is commonly discussed in these devices is about the demonstration of less information about its internal decisions. In its place, they should demonstrate significant information regarding commands and route options to allow drivers to recognize why a specific route has been suggested and adopted. Or else navigation systems risk the loss of reliability of the driver (PortableGPSSystemsReview; Hipp, Schaub and Kargly). Rationale Rationale for Facebook Timeline Interaction Design problem This section outlines the rationale for the Facebook Timeline Interaction Design problem: The open details and information about us can create any security and privacy based issues Such open and un-necessary details can create some bad feeling about our loved ones. Such un-controlled information and details leads someone to build some wrong understating about us Such less secure and lacking interaction design can be dangerous for our personal life. Rationale for Interaction Design Problems in Sony Portable Navigation System NV-U83T This section outlines the rationale for interaction based design issues in the Greenway Smart Navigation System: Due to less interactive interaction driver’s attention can diverge The Less interactive navigational system decreases driver performance The Less interactive navigational system can cause an accident Less interactive navigational system at road is very dangerous for the driver as well as for other people Solution to Facebook Timeline Interaction Design problem The Timeline is a very interesting new feature for a web based social network from a personal viewpoint in view of the fact that it is humorous as well as entertaining to click back as well as revive a memory. On the other hand, broadcasting and sharing this so simply with Facebook friends is a little bit weird. As well as due to such feature Facebook Timeline catalogues everything, it makes altering our characteristics impossible. Hence, it is very difficult to go comb throughout years of content (Krause; Brown; Mueller). In this scenario, there is need for offering some solution for such issues. One of the major and fundamental solutions is to place a delete button to delete the entire previous history. It will offer an excellent support to user regarding interaction design point of view because they will be able to hide their identity or interaction from new friends. This also offers a great deal of freedom to people by protecting their personal stuff from unwanted people (Krause; Brown; Mueller). In addition, deleting the entire history of previous 4 or 5 years can be a very hard decision for anyone. There can be some memorable moments that should be there for our personal memories. In this scenario, there is a need for some user support and change in interaction design that offers user to alter the security and privacy setting. There is need for adding some controls to hide some specific years or time span. It presents us a much better user interaction and support for user privacy (Krause; Brown; Mueller). Solution to Interaction Design Problems in Sony Portable Navigation System NV-U83T In order to improve performance and working of Automobile Navigation System there is a need for better interactivity. For this purpose, there is a need for assessment of the driving habits of a person. In this scenario, we need to make use of available sensors instead of navigation systems to completely conclude the driving behavior over time as well as adjust accordingly for future handling of the vehicle. Also by organizing significant interaction prospects as well as options, navigation systems could connect in a dialog with the driver. These systems can also better adapt to the driver as well as maintain high reliability. Though, a great deal more care is necessary in the interaction design of such system to make sure that the driver is able to focus on the primary job of operating the automobile. Conclusion Effective system design is essential for the success of a system. It is necessary to keep in mind the system user while designing a system. This paper has presented a detailed analysis of some of the important interactive system design issues. This paper has highlighted some of the main aspects of software and less software related areas those are lacking an effective interactive system design. I have also suggested some methods to design system in a better way. Works Cited Brown, Eileen. Facebook Timeline privacy concerns deepen as rollout begins. 19 December 2011. 12 September 2012 .
