Project purpose
The introduction of multicultural marketplaces due to increased competition and globalization is a serious challenge to many business organizations, especially the newly developing organizations. Migration patterns lead to formation of multicultural populations in the Australian domestic markets leading to change in behaviour and needs of customers (Baumann, Hamin & Tung 2012). These changes in the retail market, including increase in competition have created the need for companies to increase efficiency in operations and build a strong loyal customer base. With this realization, our project involving the introduction of a new technology in a new company is intended to help the company establish a strong competitive edge in the retail industry in Australia. We strongly believe that allowing our customers the opportunity to place their orders by simply clicking the touch screens within our store will expose them to a totally new shopping experience. As a retail company, our interest is to reduce wastage and the storage cost by limiting the number of stock withheld within our store at the same time maximizing on efficiency. The new technology has the potential to perform this. The product will enable our company to conduct business transactions by the use of wireless gadgets and it will involve economic value transfer in the way of exchanging information, goods and services with our target customers. As a team, we are therefore optimistic that the new technology will help our company become more competitive in the industry by being a convenient shopping store to all customers.
Scope of the project
As mentioned earlier, our focus with the new technology is to increase efficiency of operations in the new newly established grocery store. To achieve this, we intent to place four touch screens on the wall our store that will be established in Melbourne CBD. These touch screens will be located in places where the customers can easily access them while they enter the store so that they can place their orders at any time. Although the supermarket is designed to have shelves like a traditional supermarket, the shelves contain only sample products which customers can use to place their orders. The customers will only be required to use the touch screens on the wall of the store to place their order to allow staff to arrange for the delivery of the orders in the course of the day. This means that the supermarket will have very limited store in the form of samples. Unlike the traditional supermarket, our store will consume a small space to accommodate the sample products, given the nature of our business model. We intend to implement the project from Melbourne CBD because it has many companies and universities, which are the main sources of our target customers.
Upon collecting order placed by customers in the main store, they will be fulfilled from the three warehouses that will be opened in cheaper rental area outside the CBD. The information inserted into the touch screens at the main store will be distributed online to the three warehouses to facilitate quick delivery of orders. The project would require relevant resources and input from the personnel within the organization to be successful. Financial resources, raw materials and other supplies will be required carry on the project throughout the implementation process as assert De Brentani, Kleinschmidt & Salomo (2010). In addition, input of all members of the team will be required to move the project forward. The project development and implementation processes have to be supported by all functions within the organization to help achieve its goals and objectives.
Project objectives
This project has four main objectives which it is meant to achieve. They include the following;
To increase our competitiveness in the retail sector
We want to make our supermarket a unique shopping store where customers will be delighted to do their shopping all times. We appreciate the fact that there are many other shopping stores in the Melbourne CBD and therefore being different in how we conduct our business is what will help us become competitive in the domestic market. Therefore, this project is meant to help the company become one of the top preferred shopping stores in town and to be known for its convenience and efficiency.
To achieve customer loyalty
The company will also use the project to achieve high level of customer loyalty. We are optimistic that the project will make our customers increase the number of products they purchase from the store because of the satisfaction they will get from our supermarket. Additionally, besides sharing their experiences they will get after using the online service in our store to other people around them, we hope that customers will remain committed to the company and won’t be ready and willing to defect to competitors.
To promote consumer trust and strong brand image
Our target is also to promote consumer trust and the image of our business. We can only make our customers loyal by making them develop trust in us and in the products and services we provide to them. Through trust, customers would feel more secure and rely on us always and this is what we want to achieve through this project. Besides, we will focus on strengthening out image in the retail sector by making our customers develop a positive attitude towards our supermarket. As a result, competitors will be prevented from enticing our customers to buying from their stores.
To achieve steady growth and profitability
The last objective of this project is to help the company realize stable growth and increase its profits. Our business model is designed in a way that the company will experience low storage cost and reduce wastage, especially for the fresh food, vegetables and fruits. The cost savings will help the company improve on its profit margins, which will in turn enable the company to increase the number of warehouses.
Vision statement
The vision of our company is to get a good reputation, during the first year of operation, through reasonable prices, quick delivery and excellent customer services in our main store and the distribution centers.
Mission statement
Our mission is to be a reliable and trusted supermarket, known throughout Melbourne CBD and other parts of Australia.
