The Chinatown Café Adelaide has employed staffs who are up to 25 in number. Among these one, 10 staffs are working on a full time basis, another ten are working on a part time basis and the remaining five staffs work as casuals. Ten of these staffs are males while the rest who are fifteen in number are females. This business is not big yet it is also not so small and it is thus a medium sized business. The business opens and operates on a daily basis where it remains opened for six days in a week and remains closed only on Sunday. This café, which is operational in Adelaide, Australia, is found within large markets in Central Adelaide. This market happens to be between Gouger and Grote street (Llewellyn, 154). The erection of the two Paifang was done by the city council and is under the guarding of Chinese guardian lions. These Chinese guardian lions are met at entrances on either ends of the restaurant. The involvements f this business mainly consists of Chinese foodstuffs, grocery stores as well as others markets. The operating hours are between 11 am and 5 pm from Monday to Thursday and between 11 am to 4 pm on Fridays and Thursdays respectively. The purpose and nature of this business is primarily to offer meals and other restaurant services to its customers from both local areas as well as foreign areas. There is a wide range of foodstuff prepared and served by the Chinese professionals. Some of the food styles that are readily available in this café are meat as well as seafood but there are also food like salad, ham, steak and a wide range of beverages. There is also local food being sold in Chinatown Café Adelaide. These include the ones such as fried snacks, noodles, oven fried dishes and unique features of tea food. Among the Chinese collection of food available in this particular café, there is the so-called ‘couples’ style of tea which is basically a mixture of coffee and milk tea(Smith, 228). Mr Siow: Yes it was at the start when we were both new to the Australian community and didn’t think there will be much Chinese people here but it turned there was a lot. And it was also hard for both us work and meet new people in a new environment. Me: What was the toughest time when you and your wife started to open the business? Mr Siow: I think the toughest time was that we didn’t have enough money to open a café. That was when we both working 24/7 to save up and start our own business and career. Me: What made you tow wanted to start your own business and your own career? Both: we didn’t want to work 24/7 for the rest of our lifes, so we decided to save up and start our own unique business and want to spread the Asian cuisine into world-wide. Me: Mr Siow, after opening the business almost about 18 years now, has you ever thought about selling your business after you’ve made your first investment from throughout the years? Mr Siow: no actually, I have never thought about this question actually. I just love what I do, hopefully I can spread the Chinese culture world-wide. Staff Interview Me: How is working here compared working in other cafes, restaurant, or in the fast food industry? Staff: Working in the café is such a good environment to work in, because everyone is very friendly and willing to teach you knew things every day. Me: Mr Siow, have you ever thought about the local competition around the local area because when I first walked around Chinatown, I’ve realised that there are a lot of competition. Were you ever scared of these competitions? Mr Siow: That is a very good question; I did have that thought at the start when my wife and myself were planning to start our own business. But everyone just wants to do their own thing and use their own method, but if there is a lot of competition around the local area then I am just assuming that is more spaces of improvement for my business and to expand into a franchise for the future. Me: Mr Siow, what are some of the major competition in the local area? Mr Siow: In Chinatown, the 5 main competitions are Ying Chow, T-Chow, Dim Well, East Taste and Wasai. Me: How do you feel about these major competitors in the area? Mr Siow: to be honest I was a little bit scared when I knew these were the 5 main best chinese restaurants in town because their restaurant is much bigger and have more varieties than mine.
