South Australian Film Corporation (SAFC) was established by Don Dustan under an act of parliament with a mission “to stimulate and encourage the formation and continued development of the South Australian film industry”. Its role changed in 1994 when SAFC stopped producing and became the government’s principal agency to provide aid to the independent film industry. It operated in its Hendon studios from 1980 to 2011 when it relocated to Adelaide Studios; a new film and center. Its facilities include two sound stages, a screening theatre, dry hire edit suites, Dolby Premier Studio and other production facilities.

SAFC’s main purpose is to empower the screen production industry in South Australia. This organization has partnerships with the local, national, and international film industries to produce quality outcomes. It seeks to foster creativity and facilitates the development of screen production talent. According to the SAFC website, its mission statement is “To stimulate and assist South Australia’s film, video, and new media industry and community to achieve sustained economic and cultural benefits that are valued by the people of South Australia”. It does this through its sustained operations in five key areas; produce finance, project and business development, professional development, content attention, and special initiatives.

SAFC is a project sponsoring organization. It allows feature and television writers to apply for development funding. Project producing businesses and especially the film industry today operate in an intensely competitive environment. This kind of environment changes from time to time. Therefore, this calls for an approach to acquire competitiveness and corporate success. An organization needs to come up with a strategy that is agile in order to be accommodative. SAFC appreciates that organizations deliver quality services and activities when a sound and stable infrastructure is put in place. Therefore, it avails funds to organizations to operate the administrative expenses an organization incurs in delivering the programs and services they have agreed on.
