A close look at the main themes in the movie reveals that there is something apt about this movie. The film is pic looking, compared to threadbare from the surface and even plays the worst of it. The intention is that the film should be a comedy concerning a motley crew of Silicon Valley geeks.

The main issue is that they are struggling against all obstacles in the movie as an attempt to invent the new generation computer. This puts the characters in the film to be part of an already disgruntled era. The movie can be said as a representation of Po Bronson’s novel published in 1997 which is much like a section of the silicon era. The main protagonist in the movie, Andy, decides to resign from his cushy marketing position at Omega Logic, hoping to work with something more profitable.

According to Porter’s model of competitive advantage, the idea being developed by Andy can be taken as the Threat of entry. One thing noted from the film is that there is already an existing player in the computer invention move. Andy comes up as a new entrant in the market to compete in the already existing industries. Based on Porter’s model, new entrants come up with new ideas and products, carrying that desire to gain market share. As a result, the move may put pressure on product prices, costs and the rate of investment for the purpose of the competition.

Andy comes up with an idea, which he feels lies at the La Honda Institute, a technology think tank owned by Hank. This is evidence that there are already existing players in the industry and Andy wants to come in as a new entrant. As such, Andy decides to move into the business without much experience in the field that could increase the bargaining power of buyers. He wants to design a computer that would sell at a cheaper price of $99. The only challenge at this level is that he must put together team members for the successful implementation of his idea.

At the level of implementing his idea, he collects all the right persons at work to begin on the business. Their main objective is to work in different sections: the marketing team, the hardware section, and the software team. With all this, Andy feels he is ready to move into the business. Part B A close analysis of the movie reveals that after the inception of the idea to invent cheaper computers by Andy, he realized that he must put together the team to get the work going. At this point we see individuals coming in presented more or less like clowns.

There is Darell, Salman, and Obese as well as the non-socialized Tiny. These four people are apparently the core team players in the journey of inventing the cheaper computer. When Andy called in this individual, it was the first stage of team building which is referred to as form. In this stage, members come together with one focus and idea to accomplish a common goal. The challenge at this level is the identification of the right man for the job. Expertise is paramount to form a strong team.

At the storming level, individuals usually start panicking when they realize that they have a task ahead of them. Andy needed marketing people, those to work on the hardware of the computer as well as the software. Problem 2 Experience with a Product My best and the worst experience was in the use of the robotic mower which is one of the most recent inventions. The first time, I came across the product, I expected 100% efficiency.

I also expected that the product would be affordable. However, it turned out that the mower was far much expensive. Furthermore, maintenance costs were too high to remain within my economic capacity. In the first place, the machine required technical knowledge to work with it for maximum functionality. This came as a challenge to me. On the contrary, I liked the way it worked. I would only need to set it and design boundaries for it to cut the grass. As such, my work was made easier since I could concentrate on other jobs as the mower cut grass.

This gives a reason as to why I would rater the robotic mower as one of my best encounters. It taught me new ideas as well as made my work easier. Problem 3 In my cross-cultural experience, I am originally from Saudi Arabia. Being in Canada poses a lot of conflicts in culture. First, there is no restriction in Saudi Arabia for an adult to play with children including babies in places like the mall or even on the street. This is however not the case in Canada. It is found to be odd and therefore unacceptable or not recommended.

This is difficult for me to adjust since I am used to playing with children. I am tempted to do it but refrain based on stringent perceptions against adults playing with kids in Canada.
