Running Head: THE IMPORTANCE OF COMMUNICATION AS A BUSINESS PROFESSIONAL ID Lecturer The Importance of Communication as a Business Professional The Effects of Culture on Communication Culture plays a significant role within any communication module. This is the reason why cultural settings are openly advocated for within interactions amongst people and the mechanisms thus established along the way. Within a business setting, culture takes even more precedence than it would under normal circumstances. Organizations that have understood the due role of culture have also realized the extent to which culture can have a positive or a negative effect. If employees from different cultural backgrounds interact with one another, there are bound to be problems that the organization might see. This is because each one of these employees has a separate language that they are expert within, and understand their peculiar nuances than others would. Also they would find it difficult to comprehend the severely different gestures and emotions which are communicated by people at work. Because of this, there could be confusions and grievances amongst the people (Brenton, 2005). This is quite natural because cultural settings are drafted in such a way. What is even more compelling is the manner under which different employees and business personnel have an insight regarding the use of a common language – a language that shall be the medium of instruction. It is the basis of knowing which phrases and sentences will be spoken of at work and what words and syntax to avoid. It will also decipher the proper role of grammar and spelling and not to forget the specific inputs from the people who are experienced at work. Such cultural settings essentially leave an indelible impression on the minds of the employees who are doing their best to communicate with one another. The need is to find out where anomalies are and what best can be done to avoid such shortcomings and mistakes. There is a dire need to have the best possible understanding with regards to different cultures under the aegis of communication because these set the basis for productivity to flourish within the domains of an organization. In entirety, the effects of culture on communication are quintessential to understand because these pinpoint the need to inquire about the kind of work which needs to be undertaken and the expressions that must be avoided at all costs. The balancing act actually makes for a good reasoning of the subject at hand. The Importance of a Business Plan When Starting a New Business A business plan decides beforehand how a business shall be set up. It dictates the essential basis of a business and the dos and don’ts that the business has to undertake. What it also takes into perspective is the amount of inputs that need to be considered for running a business and the stakeholders who shall benefit from it in the long run. A business plan is indeed a formal statement which defines a set of business goals and the objectives that are in close association with one another. It mentions the reasons why these business goals are deemed as attainable and how these shall go ahead and make the business a competitive one within the relevant industrial settings. Also the plans for reaching the desired points are specified beforehand so that the business plans are taken as comprehensive and all-covering from a number of different angles and perspectives (Morden, 1995). The business plan also highlights the background knowledge regarding the business and the manner under which the organization or the business team is doing its best to attain those goals and objectives. It must be remembered here that business plans take care of a number of decisions that are made within their fore. The business plan therefore finds a way to attain the tasks which would have been difficult to analyze and understand when the business was being started. It gives a pathway to define things in an outright way. It also sets the basis for properly identifying where anomalies exist in a business and what would be the best foot forward. It is correct to state that a business plan shall always be elaborate enough to make room for minor adjustments every now and then (Gerhart, 2009). This discusses the tangent of highlighting where advancements and modifications need to be made as things change and events pan out. Essentially speaking, the importance of a business plan at the time of starting a new business suggests how much significance the homework phase of a business gets. If this homework is not done, there would be immense issues that will be faced by the business concerns and the top management domains. However, if these are pointed out in the beginning of drafting and executing an implementation phase for the business, then the business will shape up in a corrective fashion, manifesting the end objectives for which it was instituted in the first place. The Benefits of Effective Business Proposals Effective business proposals always require a stern eye and a vivid approach. This is the reason why effective business proposals are hard to find in this day and age because people just do not pay much attention. The basic purpose of a business proposal is to describe what one is selling in a very favorable way which essentially tells that the product being sold is going to be a sound investment for them and help them attain their respective business goals. Since business is always faced by fierce competition, it provides for a good measure if the business proposal is drafted in such a way that it taps on the strengths and the up and coming opportunities for the sake of the business. The business proposals are written for either soliciting tenders or to seek an idea or a concept for gaining support, alliance or funding (Papa, 2008). For developing a business proposal, it is significant to keep in mind that these should be clear in their insight, must strive to communicate and not impress the readers, be free from errors and mistakes, be bound and printed in a formal way, are laid out in an effective and efficient way, have incorporation of visual elements, always comprise of a title page, be correct from a political stance, be written for the people in mind, do not have too many jargons and lastly, have a good use of technology within them. Such business proposals are deemed as the most effective ones as they bring many rewards for the sake of running a business in entirety. When the effectiveness of business proposals is sought, their benefits start coming in an automated fashion. This has been witnessed in the case of drafting some of the more renowned business proposals to date. Hence an effective business proposal serves the purpose of the organization more than anything else. It attracts business and explores new markets, enticing new customers and novel methodologies. If these business proposals are enacted to bring in more and more profits, their business models should also be deemed as significantly drawn – hence the reason why there is so much emphasis on getting these business proposals right in the first place. This is the basis of knowing that a business is set on solid footings. Effective Intercultural Communication in a Global Workforce Within the basis of a global workforce, it is imperative that intercultural communication covers all aspects and areas in an effective manner. Because if this does not take place, there will be immensely significant anomalies to exist within the global workforce domains. In this day and age, there is a dire shortage of finding talented individuals who know their tasks well. When these people belong to distinctive cultures, the job of recruiting them becomes an even more arduous one (Cerulo, 2001). Hence there is an essential need to discern who qualifies for what role and who stands no chance at all within the relevant settings. The intercultural communication mechanisms are being handled in such a way that there is a great deal of emphasis on getting the best possible employees or the workforce, no matter where they are located in the world. The requirement sought by the major organizations is to determine who qualifies in an outright fashion and who will be able to give in their best time and time again. Effective intercultural communication will come about when the organization has decided for its own self the actual dictum which the employees shall follow on a regular basis. These employees could be belonging to any culture but what remains quintessential here is to comprehend that they are spoken to and their viewpoint is heard without much difficulty on the part of the organization. What remains to be seen is how well the human resource management departments within these organizations understand their culturally distinctive and empowered employees and what measures they are ready to undertake, for the overall betterment of all and sundry. If this happens, then there is all the more reason that things are being set out in the most righteous way and the effectiveness of intercultural communication within a global workforce is being realized and eventually achieved.
