Systems thinking Introduction System thinking is a major tool of systems analysis which aids a person in viewing an organization in a broad manner. Systems analysis entails utilization of the systems theory to have a succinct understanding of various systems present in organizations (Adam et al., 2009). System thinking involves structures, events plus patterns. It is a fundamental aspect in solving organizational problems because it can identify various issues within an organization and provide best procedures to enhance the solution of those problems (Adam et al., 2009). In order to utilize systems theory in a correct manner, various principles are important.

System theory drives systems thinking hence application of these principles will influence organization goals positively. System principles address the relationship between structures, optimum size plus the association between the whole system and its parts (Adam et al., 2009). This paper intends to relate system thinking perspectives to strategic planning. This will be possible by performing an exploration of CIGNA health care. It will entail selection of a strategic goal in the organization, and use of that goal in achieving the stated vision plus missions of the organization.

The paper will explore various components, and how they lead to results in the organization (Adam et al., 2009). Vision and mission of CIGNA health care The mission of CIGNA health care is to provide improved health care and enhance the well-being and security of the individuals who need the services. The organization intends to offer superior healthcare to all participants. This is possible by utilizing its physicians and improving services and products, for example, dental care and provision of pharmacy (Singer & Viens, 2008).

Strategic goal The purpose of strategic goals is to enhance achievement of mission and visions of the organization. The goal will enhance achievement of objectives set by the organization. The organization intends to create a well aware program for patients with chronic conditions, in order to improve quality care (Singer & Viens, 2008). This will involve incorporation of new technologies to enhance communication within the organization. The strategic goal intends to improve the morale of employees in the organization and hence help in achieving the missions plus visions of the organization (Singer & Viens, 2008).

The goal of the organization is vital in that it will help the organization change various perspectives. It will move in a different direction but with the aim of improving healthcare to those in need. The goal intends to help employees learn various issues such as information technology, behavior and other values. This will also involve interchange of employees for various responsibilities (Singer & Viens, 2008). There will be training on healthcare issues in order to encourage innovation and thus improve the quality of health care.

Through this process employees of the organization will gain sufficient morale to improve their operation and change their perceptions about work. The organization will achieve its mission plus visions by adhering to the strategic goals (Singer & Viens, 2008). While setting strategic goals, organizations have a responsibility of scrutinizing the visions and then setting the goal based on the visions. In order to achieve the goal, the organization will evaluate its resources and structures because they are important in achieving the goals.

For this organization, the aim is to improve health care by using system thinking approach (Singer & Viens, 2008). Evaluation Customer reaction There are various factors that will affect achievement of the set goal by CIGNA. Since the organization intends to commence a well aware program for chronic situations, there are issues within and outside the organization that will influence the strategic goal. The well aware program is to enhance provision of health care (Gharajedaghi, 2011). Internal factors This is issues within the organization that will face the program commencement.

Workers of the organization will not be having knowledge of the program. Awareness will important so that they will have an understanding of what the program will entail (Gharajedaghi, 2011). The employees of the organization will have an understanding of the measures for promoting the program (Troy, 2005). The program is to benefit all persons who intend to join including employees. There will be some challenges in coping with the new program because the present employees may lack expertise.

This attracts attention in order to train employees for the purpose of implementing the program (Gharajedaghi, 2011). External factors These include factors outside the organization, for example, the design of the program will entail various materials and tools originating from outside the organization. The design of the program will involve experts in the health field such as those from American Diabetes Association (ADA) (Gharajedaghi, 2011). The program may require funding from external sources.

This is likely to affect it during the implementation process. However, after commencement the program is to perform well by utilizing available resources and materials (Gharajedaghi, 2011). Implementation of the strategic goal In the process of executing the well aware program, the organization makes take time to act on the goal. This is because starting the program will require various issues that must be clear to the entire organization (Cohn & Hough, 2008). Primary care physicians will have to access various resources in order to be able to execute the program.

For example, physicians will need materials that will support them in offering services. The materials will be sent to their mails. The participants are to receive a care guide for diabetes (Cohn & Hough, 2008). The information in the care guide will be based on current data that relates diabetes. Participants will take about a month in order to familiarize with the program, bearing in mind the complexities that may be present, especially where certain procedures are new to the organization (Cohn & Hough, 2008).

Participants are to receive information, updating them on the required care procedures for the medical community. The guides will entail processes, various measurements plus values and interventions (Troy, 2005). All this information is important to patients and participants of the program. The participants will have to understand various procedures by utilizing the information sent for guidance. Reaction of participants will guide initiation of relevant changes (Cohn & Hough, 2008). The participants have to respond after getting various materials for the programs in order to monitor their learning process.

Implementation of the goal entails the use of system perspectives (Cohn & Hough, 2008). A system contains several parts, this phenomena is important in this process because it helps connections of events, structures plus human perspectives to arrive to a succinct solution. In this case, structures and other parts of the system relate to produce desired outcomes (Cohn & Hough, 2008). Interaction of components to produce an outcome The creation and implementation of the well aware program consists various components.

Combination and interaction of these components will produce results suitable for the organization (Troy, 2005). This is vital because the aim of the organization is to improve health care services to its patients by using various means plus programs (Cohn & Hough, 2008). Various decisions will take place at the event level of system thinking. Events are evident in the program and require succinct attention. The patterns will be responsible for connecting events in order to result to a history.

Structures will be responsible for unraveling the associations between various patterns; they reveal the connection of complex systems (Cohn & Hough, 2008). Conclusion and recommendation Implementation of the program is possible by adhering to principles of systems theory and incorporating systems thinking perspective. The participants of the well aware program were able to access information sent via mail (Cohn & Hough, 2008). The information was important because it provided guidance for dealing with chronic patients especially, diabetic patients.

This was significant in achieving the organizations missions and visions. In order for the organization to improve out comes, setting up achievable strategic goal is important (Cohn & Hough, 2008).
