In 2011, Mike Duke who is the CEO of Wal-Mart told the investors that “the same culture that drove our growth during our first 50 years can drive our growth for the next 50 years”. Although Arkansas is not a likely place for one of the largest technology based company on earth, yet this humble state has been the root of the “most impactful organizations in the history of humanity”. Today, Wal-Mart is the leading retail enterprise on earth and it remains unchallenged. It also has a great influence on the “broader global detail and the fast-moving consumer goods, and has reshaped the world of distribution”.

The company has invented many technologies that have become indispensable all over the world. These technologies ensure that the consumers worldwide promptly get all products they desire. The economic effect of the company has resulted in billions and billions of dollars by making lower-priced goods accessible to customers. A huge portion of revenues earned from the retailing business all over the world comes from Wal-Mart. It is the world’s “largest consumer goods supplier”.

(Berg & Roberts 1-2) In 1962, when Walton opened his first Wal-Mart store he declared some basic values to be followed and they were “respect for the individual, service to the customers and striving for excellence”. (Kneer 2) This paper will focus on the life of Sam Walton and his role in building one of the most popular department stores in the world.
