In the summer of 2007, an issue in the Politically Speaking, the DPA had highlighted the increased focus on the conflict meditation. This report had also highlighted the interview with the Under-Secretary-General for political affairs. In the interview, he defended the UN against all the criticism and he also highlighted the need for finding political solutions for issues around the world. The interview also highlighted the importance of results to show the effective working of the UN. This interview also highlighted and urged critics to look at the positive along with the negatives of the UN. “The UN has knowledgeable and capable people who are trying to do something about the problems in the world. The problem is one perhaps of unrealistic expectations,” he said (Department of Political Affairs, 2008). It is to be noted that the UN has made a number of benefits and a lot of efforts to sort matters out in a number of places like Nepal, Iraq, Africa, etc. However, due to the issues that have been raised and due to the political conflicts that have been faced in these countries, the efforts of the UN have gone unnoticed and thereby highlighting only the negatives of the issues. This paper had also highlighted and included the need for thought –  stimulating piece on the elections. This mainly suggested that the expectations are normally too high for the elections and what could be achieved from them, being democratic in nature, and mainly built to bring peace to the various war struck societies. With the falling economy of the US and the steep decline which is one of the most severe global downturns, there has been a lot of downfall for a number of companies. There have been a lot of drops in terms of the gross domestic product as well as the employment levels. This has affected the performance of general motors as well.
