Notably, change process creates a positive as well as negative impact among companies. In this regard, Kotter’s 8-step change model helps to manage as well as control change with a company in an effective manner (Palmer et al., 2009). The 8-step of Kotter’s change model is based on different phases, which develop positive as well as negative impact on organizational work culture. The work culture of the companies that include Hewlett-Packard, IBM, Kodak, and McDonald’s has been faced both positive as well as negative impacts due to implementation of change management.

Kotter’s 8-Step model helps to identify the positive as well as negative effects of change management in the above stated companies. John Kotter has describes the steps under 8 levels that include ‘create urgency’, ‘form a powerful coalition’, ‘create a vision for change’, ‘communicate the vision’, ‘remove obstacles’, ‘create short-term wins’, ‘build on the change’ and ‘anchor the changes in corporate culture’. Respectively, the steps are used with the aim of identifying the errors in the change process of the stated companies (Palmer et al.

, 2009; Kotter, 1996). To enlarge, Hewlett-Packard (HP) decided to merge with Compaq Computer Corp. The managerial team of HP has been identified to be going through various situations during premerger and post-merger period. In the premerger period, to compete with rival companies such as Dell and Sun Microsystems, the management of HP has decided to form a new work culture for better sales force and sustainability. As per the Kotter’s change model, the managerial team of HP developed a sense of urgency for the need of change.
