The report will give a clear picture of the overall business plan of the project. The later part of the report will analyse the financial structure of the business. An estimated income and expenditure statement for three years is prepared in the report in order to give a fore sight into the future prospects of the organization. Introduction This report is a business plan for Dunga Project located in Zanzibar, Tanzania. The project was established in the year 2009 with an objective of supporting the developing country in fighting for Malaria. This report will analyse the various activities that the project will be undertaking as part of their Malaria mission. The report will analyse the feasibility of the project, its scope of operation, the success factors, the marketing and financial plan, and its organization structure. The financial plan will analyse how the organization will manage the funds. Malaria has been a serious threat for the people living in this region. It has claimed the lives of many people including children.(Malaria Elimination Group, 2012) Among the children that are killed in Malaria, most of them fall below the age group of five. What makes such hazard rather sad is that Malaria is a curable disease and still children are prone to death due to unavailability of proper medical attention. Vision, Mission and Objectives Vision: The vision of Dunga Project is to empower the Zanzibar community to fight, prevent and control Malaria. Mission: Dunga Project’s mission is to drive the curative measures for Malaria in the Zanzibar region with an organized effort that works on a sustainable and eco-friendly mode. The project’s mission is to educate the children and their caretakers to take care of themselves and prevent the Malaria from spreading. Objectives: 1. To supply all required medical aids to the malaria affected region. 2. To take adequate measures for preventing the Malaria. 3. To educate the people about the causes, treatment and prevention of Malaria. Nature of Business This project is focussed on taking adequate care of the children in Zanzibar region who are affected by Malaria. The charity also aims at taking accurate preventive measures against the disease. The business will operate as a non-profit seeking organization in the form of a trust. The major activity of the business is to conduct health camps in diagnosing malaria or any other disease that has affected the people in the area. The health check-ups will be a periodic activity of the business. This will be conducted by dividing the regions into various groups for ease of management. Another major activity involved is to make available, the medical aids for infected people, mainly children. The third activity is the anti-malaria drive that will focus on spreading awareness about the disease. This will be conducted as a group activity at various sub groups in the region. (Where in City, 2012) Uniqueness of the Project The uniqueness of the project lies in the fact that it focuses more on the prevention aspect. The famous phrase ‘Prevention is better than cure’ is one of the major driving forces of the project. Though utmost attention is provided towards supply of medicine and curing the disease, a major portfolio of the activity consists of preventive measures. The team has already purchased around 400 mosquito nets to be supplied to the households. The mosquito nets can help in the prevention of Malaria to a great extent. We are also actively involved in removal of waste accumulations in the region, proper treatment of stagnant water and various other preventive measures that goes to the root cause of the problem. These entire activities make Dunga project unique in terms of its mode of operation. (Easmon, 2011) Constraints Following are the major constraints that are faced by the Dunga project. 1. Lack of adequate funds: Comparatively huge funds are required for driving the Dunga project to achieve its objectives. The major constraint faced currently by Dunga project is the lack of adequate funds. Medicinal supply, prevention supplies and medical camps are the major areas where the charity will require more funds. 2. Alarming rate of Malaria: Malaria is spreading at an alarming rate in the region. Making available the medicines and treatment aids to all the infected people is rather a tedious task. This is second constraint faced by the charity. 3. Developing a sustainable preventive measure: Developing a sustainable preventive measure is the next biggest constraint for the project. Though the project team carries on the drive of cleaning and stagnant water treatment, sustaining it will require the co-operation of the people living in the region. This is a serious problem and every households need to be educated about this. We also need to develop any proper waste treatment system for them. Organization Structure Dunga Project will consist of a board of trustees as its decision makers. Dunga Project is registered as a 501c3 Charitable Organization to gain the tax exempt status. The benefit of registering it as a 501c3 organization is that it not only exempts the organization from paying taxes but also allows the contributors to tax deduct the amount of contributions they make. Dunga Project employs a hierarchical organization structure. The Dunga organization structure consists of Members, Board, Officers and Committees. (Org, 2012) Members: Members form the top of the structure. Members currently consist of the founders of the organization. Through aggressive marketing efforts, the number of members will be increased in the follow on years. Board: Board is the actual management body of the organization. The board will consist of 6 members who are unanimously selected by all the members. A board is constituted for 3 years and will get re-constituted every three years through voting. The board is entrusted with the task of taking strategic decisions for driving the organization to achieve its objective. All decisions taken by the Project comes as a collective opinion from the board. Officers and Committees: Under the board are the officers who are entrusted with specialized tasks. The officers contain marketing officer, project officer and finance officer. They are entrusted with the task of managing the marketing, project and finance committees respectively. The officers are paid employees of the organization. The marketing committee just focuses on publicizing the Dungan Project. This team will formulate strategies to make the project known to the stakeholders of the project. Another important task of the marketing committee is to sell the membership of the organization. Membership income is the primary source of income for the Dunga project. The finance committee will keep a close eye on the budgets and spending of the Dungan Project. The Project committee is the real people who are involved directly with the objectives of the project. This is the creative team that decides on the activities to be conducted. Refer to Appendix 1 for the full organizational structure of Dunga Project. The committees are consisted of staffs to perform the committee activities. The marketing committee will consists of 4 executive staffs who will be actively involved in the selling of memberships, advertising and other marketing efforts. The finance committee will consist of only the officer and 1 assistant staff. The project committee will contain 5 permanent staff. Based on the scale of growth and operations in the following years, the number of staffs will be increased further. Marketing Plan The product of Dunga Project is membership. The membership will be a $2,000 package. Upon payment of this, a person becomes a permanent member of the organization. The membership is open to every individual irrespective of his/her citizenship. The uniqueness of the project lies in the fact that upon payment of $2,000, a person becomes the life-long member of the organization. Dunga Project’s marketing team will be actively involved in framing strategies for publicizing its services and connecting with the people and potential investors. The major marketing objectives of Dunga Project are as follows: Connect with the investors: Connecting with investors is required in order to gather contributions to the organization’s fund. The main activity in this plan is designing a brochure. The brochure will be all informative and self-explanatory ones that will contain information about the organization and its activities for achieving its goal. Pictures of the activities that were conducted before will be inserted in the brochure so that the investors will get a feel of the actual activities carried on by Dunga Project. Potential investors will be contacted in person by the marketing executive of the team. Internet banner ads will also be used by the Project in order to take advantage of the online marketing opportunity. Such banners will be displayed in the blogs and web pages that are related to the Malaria, charity and other allied areas. The marketing team will also develop a web page in order to keep the public, including the potential investors to be aware about the project and its activities. Connect with the government: Government is another stakeholder for the project. Connecting with the government is very much essential so as to ensure that the legal and other official matters related to the charity is properly carried on. The marketing team assigned to this objective will handle the activity of developing and maintaining relationship with the government. Once the project receives government recognition and grants, it is easier to gather funds from the potential investors. Moreover, the government support is required in conducting the activities at the regional levels with approval from the regional governmental bodies. Financial Plan Refer to Appendix 2 for a financial plan that has been prepared for the project. Membership fees will be the major cash inflow towards the organization. The membership generation for 2013, 2014 and 2015 is expected to be $26,000, $40,000 and $60,000 respectively. Customer contribution is estimated to be the next major contributor to the total fund. The marketing team will be actively involved in contacting potential customers and explaining them regarding the activities of Dunga Project. We expect to raise around $10,000 in the first year through customer contributions. Also, we expect to raise it to $15,000 and $20,000 in the second and third years respectively. Government grants are the second major contributor to the funds of the project. The government grants are expected to show the same trend as that of the customer contribution. The project is expected to raise government grants of $10,000, $20,000, and $20,000 in the first, second and third years respectively. Personal contribution in the first year will be $10,000. The personal contribution is expected to be nil in the second and third years because the project is aimed to generate income through memberships. Marketing expense will be one of the major expenses in the first year of operation. As a norm, this expense will be high in the first year. The project is expecting to spend $5,000 in the first year and $2,000 in the second and third years. The major expense item is salary for the permanent employees of the charity. The yearly salary expense is expected to be around $40,000. Supplies, medicines, camp expenses, and medicines will be the activity related expenditures. Conclusion The above plan gives a comprehensive presentation of the overall picture of the Dunga Project. The report has clearly presented the vision, mission and objectives of the organization. The organization structure discussed about the management structure of the Dunga Project. It gave a clear picture into the work flow process in the organization.
