These details included the layout of different structures and their textures. The sense of hearing revealed the different layouts from the direction of sound motion while that of smell gave details of different uses of structures in the site layout. For instance, the smell of vehicle exhaust fumes meant that there was a road or highway nearby.

The sense of touch especially in the public square and park gave details of texture. From the observation exercise, it was surprising that a great amount of detail can be gathered in absence of the sense of sight. The amount of detail collected can be used in research and programming of designs. The details can be used to make decisions and create layouts of structures in the planning and design stages.Several example of normativity exist in daily life as far as buildings and their designs are concerned.

These include geometrical shapes, standard elevators, concrete slabs and floors and use of glass. Some of the examples of normativity noted in the buildings and the sites visited are geometrical shapes in the design of buildings, use of steel to reinforce concrete, more floors on buildings so as to economically use the limited space in the city and overhead power line connections to buildings. The details in the design of these buildings give a representation of uptown life and an elite generation.
