Transgender Issues One of the biggest issues our current society is facing today would be the increasing number of transsexuals or transvestites. By definition, they are the people who identify with a certain gender that differs from the one which corresponds to their sex at birth (Transgender, n.d.). With this is the constant debate in society of whether they are to be allowed full freedom to express themselves or are to be considered a shame to humanity. In my opinion, though they clearly deviate from what a man or woman should be based on the purpose God bestowed on us during creation, what is certain is that we cannot do anything to stop the proliferation of transsexuals or transvestites in society so might as well focus on respect every human being deserves.

With this said, one interesting site that supports transgenders would be “The International Foundation for Gender Education” (www.ifge.org.). What this organization does is that they promote the acceptance of transgender people that includes cross-dressers, gender queer, drag king and queens, lesbians, gays, butch, femme, homosexuals, bisexuals, heterosexuals and etc. by educating them about freedom of gender expression and respect for individuals. In line with this organization’s goal, they recently just partnered with Gender Identity Center for 2012 Conference in Colorado that established transgenders as significant & productive people in society (The International Foundation for Gender Education, n.d.).

With this, people’s minds were now opened to not immediately accept what society would have them think, rather, have their own perspective of transgenders that centers around the idea of human respect and freedom. Indeed, though I do not totally agree with transgenders, changing their identities that God has planned for them by birth, I would say that I detest the disrespect and judgment of people who belong to this group in society which even reaches the extent of putting physical, emotional and mental pain to transgenders.

I believe that in this issue, obliterating the presence of transgenders in society is not an option because it is impossible to do. Therefore, the best thing to do would be to make sure the environment and society we live in is peaceful and that no human right is every compromised. After all, the second greatest commandment of God is to love one another and respecting the gender roles made for males and females should not be done at the expense of the commandment of loving one another as oneself.
