Sociology Social s and socialisation Introduction Socialisation is the key driving factors in the various world institutions like army, prison and hospitals. For these social institutions to operate effectively the individuals must know how to relate and how to acquire the social skill that will ensure effective operation of the institutions.Hafferty: What is “emotional socialization” according to this article?Emotional socialization is the process through which medical students protagonists make jokes on emotional and unsuspecting victims who are vulnerable.

They mainly do this through Cadaver stories and narratives. The students symbolically and physically manipulate the cadaver parts which in most cases are usually sexual organs or extremities, for the main purpose of shocking the victims and at the same time deriving humour from the distress of their victims.Hafferty: What is the most important kind of cultural competency that must be acquired by medical students and how do they acquire such competency? The most important kind of cultural competency by the medical students is the ability to socialize with the patients and the other physicians.

The medical students should basically internalize the rules regarding feeling and emotion (Hafferty, 1988). This competency is acquired through sharing their experiences and training. It is also gained through experience in the practical sessions.Dyer: What is the most important kind of cultural competency that must be acquired by the soldiers and how do they acquire such competency? The most important kind of cultural competency that must be acquired by soldiers is the ability to fight and kill another person.

They should forget their normal civilian role of being a citizen and be different as their main job is to kill or die. It is hard for normal civilians to do these acts so the soldiers gain this competency through training (Dyer, 2007). In militarized societies like Sparta, Eritrea and others the soldiers gain this competency as early as puberty when the boys are taught the military values and skills. The training in some cases involves psychological manipulation and intense indoctrination period with the main purpose of changing their values and loyalties in order to make them better soldiers.Zimmer: What is the most important kind of cultural competency that must be acquired by female prison guards and how do they acquire such competency?A prison is a place that is characterized by people who have committed extreme criminal cases. Various criminals with different penal charges are restrained in this place.

Among them are people who have been accused of rape amidst other things (Zimmer, 1987). This is a very tricky position for the female prison guards since they can be lured to do for the, men some favors at the expense of her life. She risks being sexually molested or even killed. The female body guards are made to believe that they are handling criminals and they should keep their distance. They are governed by a code that warns them against close interactions with inmates/ Giuffre and Williams: What is the most important kind of cultural competency that must be acquired by health care practitioners and how do they acquire such competency?

Different strategies are used by the healthcare practitioners during various physical examinations so as to safeguard their feelings and emotions, to take care of any patient behavior so as to avoid accusations towards them with regards to sexual misconduct. This is due to the fact that they come into contact with patients of different genders and appearances and they cross examine their anatomy fully (Giuffre & Williams, 2000). They come into contact with naked bodies and they are expected to uphold high dignity when dealing with such scenarios.

Various measures have been put in place to ensure that this competency is achieved. They include: engaging into meaningful conversations with nonsexual jokes being used whenever necessary, the patients were to put on cloths before the medical examination and the adaptation of medical terms while avoiding colloquial phrases (Giuffre & Williams, 2000). Various guidelines are also put in place to help the doctors put away any sort of feelings they might have on their patients and uphold professionalism.

These include the professional ethics and policies that govern the nurses’ and doctors’ interactions with their various patients. ConclusionIt is necessary to be guided with professional policies and codes of ethics so as to uphold professionalism and uphold the dignity and sanctity of the job one is tasked to handleReferencesDyer, G.
