Another company involved is Asics, a Japanese sneaker company. Asics however took a different approach and instead said that it will conduct an investigation to mitigate public anger of being a party to employing sweatshops (Cheang). These cases of unethical practice became so common that we often take it for granted that if we will not examine their ethical appropriateness, they would even be considered as a regular business practice. This sociological phenomenon of accepting an unethical practice as regular is best explained by a sociological concept known as sociological construction of reality.

Social construction of reality meant how we perceive reality. It meant that we perceive or construct our reality is based on our beliefs and backgrounds and we interact with the social world, how we present ourselves and how we perceive ourselves depends how we are raised, trained and how our experiences affect our lives. This concept is better elucidated in Berger and Thomas words in their work The Social Construction of Reality: A Treatise its the Sociology of Knowledge (1966) “that all human action is subject to habitualization as how reality is defined” (60) according to social construction of reality saying thus that; Any action that is repeated frequently becomes cast into a pattern, which can then be reproduced with an economy of effort and which, ipso facto, is apprehended by its performer as that pattern.

Habitualization further implies that the action in question may be performed again in the future in the same manner and with the same economical effort. This is true of non-social as well as of social activity (61). In short, Social construct is the way we are as defined by our environment, how we are brought up, expectation from society, peers, parents, family and acquaintances. It is also a product of our own choice, of what we want to be, of what we want to change or develop. This reflects in everything that we do and how
