Extract of sample "Business Ethics in Healthcare Sector"

A part of the center’s policy was to respect and fulfill all requests of the residents concerning the way they wanted to be cared of, including the right to choose personnel. Subsequently, following the demand of Majorie Letshaw, who wanted only white nurses, Brenda Chaney was prohibited from attending her. A justification if the ban was found in the Indiana state laws which provide the right to autonomy, and privacy for the residents as well as in the federal laws that allow residents to prefer healthcare providers of the same sex.

Chaney complied with the policy and avoided any contact with Letshaw. After that, other patients also expressed their will to be given only white nurses. Moreover, the following situation served as an encouragement for Chaney’s colleagues to make inappropriate jokes and offensive statements about her. Finally, Chaney got fired after one of her colleagues said that the woman used offensive words, although she was never admitted to profanity before.
