According to social stereotypes, women are more likely to ask for help when looking for solutions, whereas men tend to prefer finding possible solutions for themselves without outside and especially professional help. According to gender-role socialization theories, as described by Abigail et al in 2003, an individual's social environment, from the level of national culture down to their individual family, friendship and peer relationships, encourage both males and females to engage in behavior patterns and attitudes that are definitely gender orientated.

This essay considers various possible reasons for this, looks at a number of research studies and considers what might be done in order to aid men to get the help they need in life. This includes consideration of such things as Bowlby’s attachment theory, and its later development to include adult relationships, and also how professionals and others can help men to obtain the best possible help for whatever their problem is at as early an opportunity as possible.Introduction According to the counseling department of A.T. Still University students seeks counseling for a wide range of reasons.

These include such things as academic problems, readjusting to a new lifestyle, shyness, relationship difficulties, addiction, stress, loss and grief. That is only a partial list and applies in the main to young people, but many of the issues would apply across all age ranges and social groupings. But however wide-ranging the problems the records would almost certainly show that more females than males used the counseling services available to them as studies cited below, from many countries and concerning many different groupings in society, point out.

Throughout their lives people from any background encounter challenges. These might include such things as relationship conflicts and life transitions or deal emotionally with a major physical illness or disability.
