Employability in Action It is always better to work smarter rather than harder. Working smart means setting up smart goals to suite the life purpose of an individual. A smart goal is that which is specific, measurable, attainable, relevant and time-framed and represented by the acronym SMART. Making a goal specific gives it greater chances of being accomplished than the general goals. Therefore to achieve these goals we have to ask ourselves several questions such as: Who is involved? What do I want to accomplish? When will the goal be achieved? Why is the goal important? How will I know when is accomplished? Amongst these there are other similar questions. Developing SMART learning goals induces focus into you goals and further provides clear idea of what you intend to learn. Success is built on SMART goals. This study therefore purposes to discuss both the short term and long term SMART goals. Considering someone who intends to graduate from the university as early as September 2015, the person is entitled to several benefits. They have great employment opportunities in the field in which they have specialized. Employers seek qualified personnel and these encompass university graduates. The graduate can also advance their career, attain recognition and credibility and more importantly, achieve personal growth. Consequently, there can be grave pain when one fails to achieve their goals. The pain could be physical, emotional or even psychological. For instance their reputation might be lowered, they might not get employed and thus live in total hardship. For one to attain these particular goal they have to discover their potential and draw an impeccable plan of their study. In order to drive this goal forward one needs dedication, passion and sacrifice of their time. Another instance of a short term goal would be planning to learn modern technology in photography and directing everything about new camera. An achievement of this goal puts the learner at a better position in the field of employment especially if it linked to their study course. Failure to achieve this however lowers the competence level of the learner. Given that this goal is more practical oriented, the learner can give it a practical approach, which is to mean, being so much involved in photography rather than just reading on it. Moving the goal forward may involve personal acquisition of digital camera, keeping informed on the evolving technology and market exploration in order to familiarize one's self with the modern technology. Furthermore, let us explore the goal of attempting to quit smoking and staying healthy. Obviously, staying healthy by avoidance of smoking means no diseases as lung cancer. But failure to quit smoking on the contrary have grave consequences of fatal respiratory illnesses. Staying healthy from drugs such as tobacco is matter avoiding smoking habit through informed decision making. Failure to succumb to peer pressure is one other good way of making prudent choices based on your health. Smoking just like any other drug addiction can be driven by circumstances. The best thing to do is to weigh the pleasure in smoking with the displeasure that comes with the continued use of cigarette. The frustrating results that come with it could possibly drive you against it. The results may include tainted teeth, lung cancer, change in eye color and bad breath. Let us now consider the long term goals of getting a master degree in film studies and a PhD degree on the same. Definitely this calls for even much more dedication and commitment. An achievement of such reputable goals would then mean a much more secured job market than you had at the undergraduate degree level. Many a times such achievements may grant you an opportunity to induce knowledge into the minds of other scholars, or you could even tour the world without digging into your pocket. But should one fail in this field then it would be more of a slap on the face. Their former degrees might even be questions causing embarrassments. A long term goal as such is achievable through the development of sense of great purpose and taking ownership of the film work. It could be driven by creating a big picture of the future, staying exceptional and always wanting to prove yourself. Another long term goal such as being a famous director in the future and working with professionals is breathtaking. It is a goal that comes with great responsibility and normally great responsibilities are for great people. This goal means shaping the world by making it a better place, a role that most people are willing to stand up to. Now imagine failing to achieve a goal as such, it could lead to depression and loss of one's self now that they seemed so close to 'mightiness'. This is an achievement of greatness that is internally driven. It therefore lies within the person interested in it to offer themselves since they have come a long way and discovered their potential. One way to stay focused to a goal is to keeping yourself occupied by the very things that draw you closer to success. This is to mean that for such a goal to be realized then one must spend more time with whoever they desire to be. Finally, you might be planning to save some money to buy a house as one of your personal prime goals. Should this work out then you would be glad having somewhere to spend the rest of your life in the future. I would also mean a happy family. Now should the unanticipated scenario of failure occur then you would never let go off the guilt of failing to deliver as a parent or forever live with some sort of emptiness like something is really lacking in your life. Sometimes it is the fear of such like failures that give us the power to stand up to our goals in life. Furthermore, this is also an achievement that will most likely happen to someone earning and most likely learned. Sticking to the luxuries of life, rising up to the responsibilities as a father and the urge to make a difference can act as the driving force towards the achievement of such a goal. Read More
