It is unveiled from the reading that Louie has convincingly explained the main issue with the help of the responses of some Chinese American students however, some important issues and elements are not been given due importance in the discussion. The book strives to establish the link between the role of families and the educational experiences of Chinese students in America. It is concluded that the families play central and powerful role in fuelling up the educational expedition of the students.

The importance of race, class and gender could not be ignored in this context however; these issues became less eminent when compared with the role of families and their cultures. This issue has been explored and explained with the help of extensive interviews of the Chinese students allowing them to speak about the problems and apprehensions in education world and to provide guidelines to the next generation for making well informed and rightward decisions for their education and career. Louie finds that the Asian Americans have proved that their cultures play important role in contributing their successful educational careers in America however, they have faced variety of challenges in this process that are explored by conducting the interviews of 68 Chinese students attending different notable educational institutes in America like Ivy League school and Columbia University etc.

Louie challenges that the class and race are not the determining factor behind the progress of the students and the students of inferior class and race could also progress well in education if they have motivation and courage to achieve something exceptional and outstanding. The culture of the families forms the mind sets of the students and the families oriented towards education usually provide strong support to their studying members in achieving high at different levels. The book convincingly presents the argument that race and class are not the determining factors behind the educational achievements of the people but it is the culture that determines how far the student will go exploring new dimensions and scope within education fields.

The families with bad culture usually remain unsuccessful in producing high achieving students even if they belong to upper class and dominating race whereas the families with strong values about education succeed to provide their children with strong base and take them towards higher levels of achievement in education. The examples of numerous Chinese Americans have been presented in the book to support this argument. The book provides a highly informative and interesting reading experience and infolds different aspects of Chinese Americans progress in education.

The book could be regarded as an important contribution to the literature focusing upon the issue of Asian Americans education in the foreign countries. It is unveiled from the reading that it is an important and worth recommending book that explains different complex issues related with the educational careers of second generation of the Chinese immigrants in America. The experiences of the Chinese students described in the book allow having a clear picture of the present situation and to understand the major problems and issues that the Chinese students have encountered within the American education system and the challenges posed to the upcoming generation.

The book makes the voice of Chinese students
