Advanced Practice Role in Nursing Introduction With the change in the quality of care giving in the hospitals, the roles of the nurses has also altered in order to maintain a healthy sustainable environment. The health practices and stages of quality n the health system has developed and has created the necessity to improve the roles of nurses for providing a better healthcare facility. For the augmentation of the healthcare nurses play a pivotal role in developing quality services of the hospitality sector. Moreover, with the elated development of globalization the need for proper and improved quality care has become a major part of the hospitality system. In this context, redesigning of the nursing system would lead to the development of standardized practices of nursing, which enables nurses to become more professional and responsible towards the life of others. Moreover, due to globalization various other health facilities have developed in the nursing system that has initiated the need for the interpersonal collaboration. This new set of development that has been brought into the system of healthcare is likely to provide a seamless improvement to the quality of healthcare provided. Contextually, Advanced Practice Nurses (APN) delivers active services and takes measures to provide the patients with preventive care. Through effective training and diagnosis process APN can effectively treat patients. Moreover, depending on these practices the nurses have been efficiently managing their patients and ensuring proper health facilities to them. Owing to their experience and their knowledge they have the ability to deal in diverse healthcare system. APN have severe abilities to handle adverse situations owing to their knowledge development as well as the advanced training they have received during their educational development. With the integration of the research, leadership and educational development, APN have been developing the mode and quality of their clinical roles. With this regard, the paper focuses on explaining the development of the roles of APN. The paper Elaborates on the opportunity of practices, competence, challenges and certification requirements as well as the legal implications related with the nursing practitioners. In addition to the above, the different leadership abilities required for APN to enhance their ability to perform their chosen role have been evaluated. Discussion Advanced Practice Roles in Nursing APN is the term that is used to define a level of nursing practices, which helps in developing the comprehensive skills, experiences and nursing care related to providing health care. Through critical analysis and problem solving correct decision making can be ensured. There are various roles of the nurse practitioners, which are evaluated hereunder. Role of the nurse practitioner The role of the nurse practitioner is completely focused on the clinical development and to maintain a regulatory framework. The national board regulates the operations of the nurse practitioners. The roles are subject to review by the national board. On the contrary, role of APN is not regulated by the national board. The role of the nurse practitioner is inclusive of the management as well as the assessment of the nursing practices through their nursing knowledge and skills. Through the values, knowledge, theories and practices the nursing practitioners have been providing knowledge about medication and diagnostic practices. The APN has been providing innovative and flexible healthcare delivery, acting as a compliment to the healthcare providers. The nurse practitioners under the APN are equipped with better clinical practices and training, which makes it easier for the nurses to develop better and advanced clinical practices (Arizona State Board of Nursing, 2009). The nurse practitioners in order to ensure a better and developed clinical approach should be developing their knowledge and skills to enhance the level of their competencies and care giving. The role of the nurse practitioner is observed to be clinically focused pertaining to high roles in developing a self-dependent attitude and to ensure that they function autonomously. The role of the nurse practitioners is observed through their effective actions of having higher accountability towards their patients. The nurse practitioners need to be endorsed by the nursing boards to prescribe medicine and other diagnosis. The advanced nurse practitioners are provided with developed knowledge and skill sets to address a crisis efficiently. The advanced practitioners through their skills and knowledge enhance the implication of the clinical practices developing the same in a very advanced manner (Arizona State Board of Nursing, 2009). Roles of the nurse educator The role of the nurse educator is very crucial in the advanced nursing practices. The nurse educators are the background players who uplift the skills and knowledge of the nurses to meet the developed needs of the advanced practicing. Education is the primary need that helps to develop advanced nursing practices. It is an essential requirement for the development of the nurses, to efficiently ensure that the practices followed by the advanced practitioners are as per the standards of the national board. Moreover, the nurse educators must be providing effective training to ensure that the training provided are efficient enough to meet the needs of the practices. It is also a pivotal role of the nursing educators to provide efficient knowledge in order to enhance the ability of the nurses to practice the advanced clinical practices. Furthermore, it is the duty of the nursing educators to integrate certain developed practices to enhance the ability of nurses to expertise in the clinical nursing practices. The nursing educators prescribe the norms that should be followed in accordance to the legislative provided for the development of the legislated “scope of practice” (Martin-Misener et al., 2010). Role of the nurse informaticist The technological development plays a major role in the expansion of the advanced nursing practices. Informatics also plays a vital role in developing the nurses to provide advanced care and ensures that the care provided is as per the legal requirements of the board. The nurse informaticist plays a special role in integrating the nursing science, information as well as the communication to enhance the clinical practices of nurses. Nurse informaticist helps in enhancing knowledge and skill base of nurses by providing proper understanding, support to the nurses as and when required. The nursing informaticist helps the nursing practitioners with the information support to enhance the proper identification of the problem. Moreover, the informaticist even provides the alternative solution that could develop the process of care giving for greater effectiveness. The nursing informaticist provides a detailed framework of the concepts enabling the practitioners to perform better (University Of Texas Arlington, 2014; RN.com, 2013). Moreover, nursing informaticist updates the nursing practitioner’s skill sets, providing the practitioners with a new margin of development. The informaticist by their skill sets ensures that the skills and knowledge of the practitioners are developed to meet the increasing needs of the society. Additionally, the informaticist provides the practitioners with the requisites, enabling them to develop their cognitive skills to provide quality care to the patients as per the requirement. The informaticist even ensures that the collaboration can be duly addressed between the nursing practitioners in order to develop a better approach towards care giving. Correspondingly, the informaticist provides the practitioners with the medical history of the patients, so that the practitioners can ensure better care to the patients (University Of Texas Arlington, 2014; RN.com, 2013). Role of nursing administrator The nurse administrator ensures that the proper schedules of the work are developed on time in order to enhance the performance of the nurses as per the legal standards. Certain circular needs are to be administered in order to develop the management of the nursing practices and to enhance the quality care to the patients. Moreover, the nursing administrator takes care regarding the certification of the nurses and also ensures that the knowledge of nurses meets the standard that is required to be maintained in order to deliver quality care to patients. Additionally, the skill sets that need to be developed to meet the rising demand of nurses to provide the advanced cares to the patients are also looked after by the administrator. The nursing administrators are the licensed practitioners and have certain educational certification to establish proper nursing practices. Nursing administrator even enhances the competence and the specialty level of the care provided to patients. Subsequently, nursing administrator maintains the legalized requirements for the practitioners to ensure that proper care and quality services are being delivered to patients (American Association of Colleges of Nursing, 2014; Riendeau, n.d.). The roles of the nursing practitioners, nursing administrator, nursing educator as well as the informaticist plays a pivotal role in developing the advanced practices in nursing. The major roles are identified to be quiet critical in the areas of primary nursing practices for the care givers. The role of a nursing educator is to provide proper education to the nurses, so that they can carry out their duties efficiently with regards to providing care to patients. This effort ensures to develop the knowledge base of the nurses, so that they can carry out their duties diligently with quality. Parallel to the nursing educators, the informaticist provides the requisite support in terms of knowledge development, information development as well as the development of the skill sets for the improvement of the hospitality care system. Additionally, the informaticist even enhances the research options by providing the nursing practitioners the required support to enhance their level of knowledge and advance practices for better efficiency. Individual Advanced Practice Role The law defines the scope of practices as well as requirement of the physician collaboration as required. The regulatory requirement of the law related to the nursing practices involves the need for license, determination of the “scope of practices” along with providing the prescriptive authority. The government of Nevada has passed on certain rules with regards to the advanced education required for the practitioners in order to conduct nursing practices. Moreover, the different practices conducted by the nurses at various level of society should be certified. The prescriptive authority should be attained by APN to conduct the special diagnostic process. The basis of the license should be well defined. APNs have the prescribing authorities and are even capable of carrying out independent practices. The Nevada state law, govern the requirement for holding a professional license in order to conduct nursing practices in the state. Correspondingly, the state even has certain practice that allows the government to revoke the license. The state even holds the authority to terminate the certificate under specific violation of the law (Jones & Bartlett Learning, 2014; The Center for the Health Practitioners, 2007). Additionally, it can be stated that “The American Association of Nurse Practitioners” is the best association to practice the job role of family nurse practitioner. The organization holds the fame of having the largest professional membership providing the patient services at critical as well as palliative care. The organization even has wide range of hospitals and clinics that provides specialized nursing facilities to the families. The organization having a wide base of professional practitioner makes it easier for the people to work with colleagues belonging for multi discipline. This also ensures the development of the knowledge base. The requisite certificates required to conduct the role of a family nurse practitioner is an ‘advanced graduate certificate family nurse practitioner’ in order to practice in Nevada. Moreover, the ethical code of the organization is to provide high quality, comprehensive, cost-effective as well a patient centered care that would provide a better opportunity to the practitioners. In addition to this the organization would also provide the practitioners, a better platform to develop their personal skills and knowledge. The multidisciplinary workforce would also enhance the collaboration among the employees and would ensure that the skill set of the practitioner develops accordingly. The organisation having a well developed background as well as huge participation from different practitioners belonging from different background. This would help me work with multidisciplinary practitioners who have experiences of different background. Consequently, the large number of collaboration with different organizations would also provide better opportunity for the people to develop (The American Association of Nurse Practitioners, 2014; The University of Nevada, 2014). Leadership Attributes of the Advanced Practice Role The nursing practices needs independent practices for its effectiveness as the care givers have their individual approaches in providing care in a given situation. The leadership abilities that I possess are delegative leadership style. Each practitioner has a separate set of approach towards care giving to the patients. The interference can create a terrible scenario of misjudgments, improper implication of the practices, which can lead to harm of patients. However, this requires the delegative approaches as it involves no or very less involvement of the leaders on the subordinates. The subordinates get complete freedom to conduct their practices and make complete decision making of the followers. This even helps the nurses to ensure proper care giving to their patients on time with quality. This free state of leadership even ensures that the practitioners practice their own set of development, providing scope to innovate their practices. Additionally, the group members through their innovative problem solving techniques initiate the alternative measures to solve the arising problems (Negussie et al., 2013). However, I have a problem regarding collaboration with people. I need to develop a better acceptance towards the opinions of others to ensure that I can have a better approach towards the practices. Additionally, I need to develop a better understanding towards various managing abilities to ensure that I can develop my personal skills and knowledge sets. The lead stuffs and nurses in the hospitals needs to be developed in order to ensure the transformational leadership style enabling the health care organizations to perform in an effective way. By implementing a delegative leadership style nurses can ensure that they can work freely and can easily ensure their personal development. Though I possess effective leadership skill I need to develop my listening skill and acceptance as well. This would initiate a better awareness towards the service I provide to various patients. Additionally, through a better development of my acceptance I can even increase my commitment towards growth and foresight the development of my career. By increasing my concentration and also by undergoing several classes to develop my listening skills I have improved my listening ability. Furthermore, by developing the acceptance of the different speakers I will be able to increase my interpersonal skills and ensure my personal development. Through the personal development I will efficiently be able to develop my knowledge base and also my practicing skills. By the development of my leadership attributes I will also be able to perform a better on job learning and ensure a better development of my personal skills (American Association of Nurse Assessment Coordination, 2014). Health Policy and the Advanced Practice Role Sharing information related to health plays a critical role to provide the advance care to patients by nurses. The cost and quality of the health care helps to enhance the standard of care provided to the patients. Though the pace of providing elated care has gained momentum but the electronic distribution of the healthcare information still lacks far behind the requirement of the present day (Marchibroda, 2014). The scenarios of the healthcare have changed with the enforcement of the Health Information Technology for Economic and Clinical Health (HITECH) Act in 2009. More and more practitioners are availing the facilities of the Electronic Health Records (EHRs) to enhance the quality of the healthcare services to make the care process effective and convenient (U.S. Department of Health & Human Services, 2009). Conversely, the major backlog for the system is regarding the security of maintaining privacy of the data. The major ethical issue related with the interoperability is to maintain the privacy of patients (Bruening, 2012). Through the use of interoperability providing services to the patients have become more developed and easy. On a negative note the system of interoperability has made privacy and confidentiality of the patients vulnerable (Schlachta-Fairchild et al., n.d.). To instigate the changes I will definitely be providing the organization with information regarding the development that could be incorporated by interoperability. I would also take the initiative to share my knowledge with the other practitioners to enhance my personal techniques of care giving. Privacy and confidentiality of patients are the prime ethical requirement to provide proper care to patients. The organizations dealing with informatics have taken several steps to make the system less vulnerable and enhance the confidentiality of patients. In regards to this context, different organizations are patronizing a closed networking system to develop a modern system that would be less vulnerable and would effectively provide the required safety to the confidentiality of the patients. This will improve the ethical aspect of care giving to a considerable extent (Bolton et al., 2008). In this regard, if the system could be developed the security of patients could be ensured. Additionally the nursing system would develop depending on providing elated care. Through the development of the interoperability in the healthcare the medical facilities could be provided as and when required by the patients. This would also enhance the medical practitioner’s accessibility to the data making the system more developed and enhanced. This would also help the practitioners to share their experience and knowledge with the other practitioners making the care giving more developed and authentic (TIGER, n.d.). Conclusion With the advent of globalization the healthcare systems are also developing their institution to enhance the level of care giving to their patients. With the motive of providing quality care to the patients the healthcare organizations are more inclined towards developing APN to meet the ever increasing needs of the patients. In order to provide the patients with better care APN has proved to be one of the major recourse. It has also been noted that in order to make the APN system effective the need for individuality of decision making is a most important. In this regard it can also be observed that the delegative leadership style provides the practitioners with the requisite independence to make the system a success. The information system as well as education and training prove to be very important for the practitioners to practice the proper standard of quality care. The roles of the different individuals to develop progressive nursing have been analyzed to give an overview of the practices. The leadership roles play a major part in developing the roles of the practitioners in order to provide quality care to every patient. Being independent APN can successfully modernize better techniques of care that could be provided. However, in the long run to practice a successful APN, proper certification plays a major role. The certification proves that would that the practitioners are capable enough to carry out their duties ethically and with immense quality. Thus, the different practices need to be developed with the changing needs of the environment to provide a developed as well as better care. The different system development has been observed to be one of the major requisite to enhance the quality of care giving to the patients. The role of the nurses in APN is crucial than the normal nursing practitioners as the APN has a diverse role in the diagnosis of patients. Moreover, in order to provide independent care APN needs to be more accurate and diligent about their work and service. References American Association of Colleges of Nursing. (2008).
