In this regard, nursing professionals should provide treatment as well as care services accordingly, for better well-being and safeguard of societies. Nursing legislations provide standards based on which nurses are required to conduct their practices. To be more specific, nursing legislation influence nursing careers and defines health care policy as well as impacts the care offered to patients. Additionally, it advocates the rights of patients with respect to care as well as treatment services. Nurses are also offered with responsibilities and pledges on the basis of which care services are required to be offered. In the present scenario, it has been identified that there are several incidents where nursing professionals have faced allegations for impaired nursing practice owing to different values that include incompetency and misconduct among others. The traditional legislative framework is identified to be out-dated and subsequently, different amendments are adopted with the aim of safeguarding public’s health. Besides, one of the prime goals associated with professional development amid nursing staff is the development of communication. Communication of good practices is made as a critical part of redevised legislations in the UK nursing practices which focuses on allowing staff to remain assured to raise any concerns during providing quality care to patients (1Crown, 2013; NMC, 2008). Correspondingly, ‘Nursing and Midwifery Council’ (NMC) and ‘National Health Service’ (NHS) have planned to amend nursing legislation by developing measures in relation to education standard, conduct, performance and training on the basis of which midwives as well as nurses should conduct their activities. Additionally, NMC maintains the register of practicing nurses and in case of allegation, appropriate measures are undertaken for better protection of the health of the public. NHS has effectively implemented 6 C’s ‘care’, ‘competence’, ‘compassion’, ‘courage’, ‘communication’ and ‘commitment’ in nursing practices with the intention of offering appropriate care to patient and society well-being. Contextually, necessary amendments in the legislative framework of nursing practices which considerably focus on the development of communication will facilitate in ensuring that nurses are able to provide care as well as treatment services in a fair manner while reducing the prevalence of medical errors (Francis, 2013; NMC, 2013). In this regard, the essay emphasizes the importance of communication for personal and professional development for a nursing professional in keeping with different aspects of legislation for nursing professionals as per the NMC Code of conduct, the NHS Constitution, Francis report and the 6 Cs. New Learning and Rationale for Choice The new provisions in nursing legislation have changed the learning processes of nurses. Presently, nurses are offered with better training services in order to develop commitment as well as compassion attitude towards care of patients. Additionally, the amended standards and principles have assisted nurses in developing their beliefs as well as values in an effective manner. Training services have also aid in developing an effective working culture as well as governance system with the assistance of which care as well as treatment services are controlled. The communication system has been made transparent and important healthcare information can be procured accurately and in timely manner. The communication system is determined to play an effective role for nurses towards mobilising as well as developing an effective relationship with patients and healthcare management in order to ensure that quality care as well treatment services are offered consistently. Additionally, nurses are required to be competent as well as committed while delivering care services towards patients (NMC, 2013; NHS, 2012). In the nursing practices, certain changes have been made in nursing legislation owing to the recent care issues in the Mid-Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust has been under the threat of increased mortality rate. Additionally, numerous complaints were made against inadequate care as well as treatments offered to patients by the Trust. In this regard, an analysis was conducted by Robert Francis QC, which signified that there was a failure in the governance system of the Trust. The working environment was inappropriate for patients and staff as well. Moreover, the management of the Trust did not considered different important aspects in board meeting which include clinical governance, patient complaints and care as well as treatment quality. In this respect, the Trust failed in providing safe care services to patients. The Trust also lacked in having appropriate number of staff to provide care as well as treatment services effectively. Complaints about nurses associated with the Trust were reported for performing nursing practices without adhering to clinical leadership as well as professional standards. The report signified that the management of the Trust has been driven towards accomplishing personal interest as well as cost control objectives while ignoring care quality and patient complaints. Respectively, the major problem has been seen in terms of lack of communication between Trust management, staff and patients. The issues identified in the report revealed deficiencies with respect to effective communication, professional standards and care services (Powell, 2013; NHS Confederation, n.d.). In accordance with the Francis report, certain recommendations were made with the intention of enhancing care as well as treatment services. In this respect, nurses are obliged to perform nursing practices on the basis of fundamental standards and in compliance with healthcare measures. Subsequently, based on the recommendations made in the Francis report, nursing legislations have been amended with the aim of enhancing care as well as treatment standards. In this regard, NMC and NHS have made necessary amendments in order to ensure that effective care as well as superior treatment services is provided to patients. NMC has developed standards and ethics in accordance with which nurses should conduct their activities. NHS provides rights, duties and responsibilities based on which nursing practices should be in alignment, so that care is offered compassionately. Nursing legislation comprises regulations, which signifies that nursing professionals are personally liable for the actions along with omissions that are made in their practices. Moreover, nursing professionals are accountable for providing justifications about their decisions. Additionally, the issues in relation to Francis Report lead to the galvanisation of 6 C’s of nursing in NHS principles. Correspondingly, nurses are required to conduct their practices based on six different aspects which include care, competence, compassion, courage, communication and commitment (NHS, 2012). How Has the Learning Made a Difference to Me I have observed from the new learning that has taken place that the aspect of communication within the domain of nursing professionals is not limited merely talking with patient along with their family members. Presently, healthcare provisions have been amended with the aim of ensuring that patients are provided first priority, so that needs and care requirements of patients are accomplished effectively. The issues faced by NHS in relation to care services offered to patients have raised the requirements for implementing 6 C’s in nursing for better well-being and safeguard of society. In this regard, 6 C’s of nursing has been implemented as a fundamental aspect with the intention of improving care as well as treatments services. NHS with the implementation of 6 C’s will be able to align healthcare processes as well as systems in order to develop an effective working culture. Subsequently, nurses are facilitated with the opportunity of performing their operations competently with better treatment as well as care outcomes. Consequently, the care and the wellbeing provided to patients in different dimensions have augmented with the influx of effective communication (Hollis, 2012). The different elements of 6 C’s are explained hereunder: Care NHS has implemented 6 C’s with the aim of ascertaining that patients are offered with care services. 6 C’s are perceived to assist nurses in providing care services that are person centred and safe. Additionally, nurses are also facilitated in providing care on evidence-based practises. Healthcare information is documented in a timely and clear manner. In this respect, I have realised that the provision of quality as well as safety in healthcare facilities will aid nurses in conducting their activities in a positive working environment (Hollis, 2012). Compassion In healthcare facilities, nurses are required to possess certain definite skills, attributes as well as behaviours, so that cares along with treatment services are delivered in a compassionate manner. As a part of nursing profession, I have understood that nurses should act as leaders to perform their responsibilities in accordance with the needs as well as requirements of patients. Nurses are required to have information as well as knowledge in relation to the experiences along with feedbacks of patients. In this respect, nurses should have a better understanding in relation to the impact of care services offered to patients. Correspondingly, nurses should ensure that care services are provided without discrimination. Moreover, nurses are required to provide care services based on human dignity and should offer required care services with minimum medical errors. In this respect, nurses are entrusted with the responsibility of developing leadership skills and ensuring effective communication so that high quality care services are offered to patients. I have started to implement this valuable learning in nursing practices which has made a decisive difference to my approach of offering care and wellbeing to patients (Hollis, 2012). Commitment The commitment factor implies that nurses are required to be committed towards embracing changes in nursing practices, so that nursing practices are made transparent. Additionally, I have learnt that nursing practices are required to be evaluated on a continuous basis with the aim of ensuring that care services are enhanced. Subsequently, innovation should be adopted in healthcare facilities to incorporate advanced technology for enhancement and improvement of communication system and nursing practices. Correspondingly, I have focused on facilitating innovative treatment facilities to patients to generate better care to them. In this respect, I have learnt that healthcare and patients related information should be recorded successfully with the aim of ensuring that right care as well treatment services are offered to patients. Thus, commitment assists in having sustainable improvements in different areas that include health improvement, healthcare promotion and healthcare delivery (NHS, 2013; Hollis, 2012). Communication In the present day context, communication is identified to play a key role towards the involvement of patients, nursing staff, and senior management. In this regard, I as a part of nursing profession am required to share ideas with different individuals that include management, patients, patients’ relatives and staff members. Subsequently, a collaborative working approach from my end can aid in management decision making along with creating awareness amid patients’ to offer them quality care services in a continuous manner (Hollis, 2012). Courage I have learnt that nurses are required to possess courage along with commitment with the intention of overcoming scepticism about principles as well as standards in relation to nursing practices. Presently, nurses are offered with the opportunity of presenting their viewpoints relating to healthcare decision making (Hollis, 2012). Competency I have realised that nurses are required to be competent in providing care services. Additionally, nurses are also needed to be knowledgeable in analysing their performances accordingly, documenting their assessment reports accurately for enhancement of care services and nursing practices. Contextually, nurses with the assistance of documented reports are able to build confidence for offering high quality as well as safe care (NHS, 2013; Hollis, 2012). In this respect, it can be comprehended that nursing practices are based on different values, which are necessary in their learning process, as the nurses possessing the aforementioned values are able to provide care services in a consistent manner. Respectively, I have also identified that communication of healthcare documented information plays a pivotal role in decision-making based on which quality care as well as treatment services are offered to patients. In this regard, changes in nursing practices have amended the learning process, as presently nurses are required to be competent in their approaches for improved healthcare services. How Will This Learning Influence My Future Clinical Practice Presently, NHS has implemented 6 C’s as important principles in nursing practices based on which nurses are required to conduct their care services. 6 C’s have changed the learning requirements of myself as a part of nursing profession in an immense manner owing to different requirements based on which care as well as treatment services should be provided. Nurses should adopt six different values that include compassion, competency, courage, care, compassion, commitment and communication. In this respect, nurse are offered with training services, so that they are able to provide care services to patients with better compassion and consistency. I have identified that in the present day context, nurses are required to perform different operations with the aim of ensuring that care as well as treatment services are offered in an enhanced manner. Nurses should possess knowledge and understanding about different values that are essential for conducting nursing operations efficiently. Respectively, in clinical services, nurses should possess a combine of all the values of 6 C’s essential for providing care services with better excellence and appropriateness. The important function is to provide quality care in accordance with the requirements of patients. Besides, there are other functions that include documentation of healthcare information, participating as well as making recommendations in healthcare decisions and commitment towards healthcare standards that are to be performed by nurses. Nurses are also identified to play a leadership role by providing care services to patients on the basis of their treatment requirements and needs. Responsively, I can state that based on the derived learning my clinical practice will be driven by beyond merely rendering care. Based on the prescribed legalisations, it is evident that a number of varied aspects (6 C’s) of learning amalgamate together to offer patient’s exceptional as well as suitable care. How I Will Develop This Learning After The Module In nursing practices, I, as a nursing professional, am required to learn on a lifelong process with the intention of providing high quality care as well as treatment services to patients. The needs of patients are complicated owing to different factors that include technological advancement and complex health requirements. In this regard, nurses are required to enhance their competencies through health policies, leadership, research, evidence-based practice, system improvement effective communication and teamwork with the aim of delivering care services in accordance with the requirements of patients. Furthermore, it is necessary for nurses to adopt learning process in every step of their career and services in order to develop their skills as well as knowledge. Subsequently, I with the assistance of life-long learning process would be able to ensure that become competent enough to operate innovative technological tools as well as ‘information management system’ to implement them in clinical environment. I have also realised that nurses should have constant learning with the aim of obtaining different values that include ethics, diversity, integrity, holism and patient-centeredness in their attributes as well as approaches (Royal College of Nursing, 2012; NLN Board of Governors, 2011; NMC, 2011). Learning plays a significant role for the development of nurses in relation to their competencies and nursing practices. I as a nursing individual with the assistance of learning would be able to have a better understanding of nursing standards as well as ethics that are implemented by NMC after the module. NHS provides different important factors in relation to responsibilities, rights and pledges based on which nurses provides treatment services to patients. Additionally, learning will also aid me in building their nursing practices grounded on evidence-based practices. Nurses will also be aware of 6 C’s of nursing which are important values essential for nurses to deliver high quality care. In this respect, I would be facilitated with the opportunity of performing my operations on the basis of desired ethical standards and values. Additionally, I will be able to conduct their practices appropriately. I with the aid of learning will have a better practical understanding of clinical settings and the procedure based on which patients are required to deliver treatment services with appropriate medication and support. Contextually, learning would assist me in aligning their theoretical as well as practical knowledge efficiently with the assistance of which they have a clear understanding of the requirements of patients. Correspondingly, with the assistance of constant learning I will be able to conduct my nursing operations in a consistent manner (Crown, 2012; Committee on the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation Initiative on the Future of Nursing, 2011). How Personal/Professional Development Relate To the NMC In nursing practices, nurses in order to develop their professional standards are required to possess certain competencies for providing high quality care to patients. In this regard, nurses in their learning and training services are required to have adequate understanding of professional standards in relation to ethics and performance. Respectively, I, as a nursing professional am required to be aware of NMC Code, which provides nursing ethics and standards for conducting their activities accordingly. Subsequently, with the assistance of NMC Code, I would be able to conduct my required operations with better trust, integrity and dignity which in turn will assist my personal as well as professional development. The Code also would aid me in conducting my operations ethically and compassionately. Additionally, the Code ensures that nurses are able to provide high quality care as well as treatment services on the basis of patient’s requirements (Nursing Times, 2011). Thus, the focus on following NMC code can go a long way in facilitating personal and professional development of a nursing professional. Relationship between Communication for Personal and Professional Development and NHS Constitution and The 6 Cs Healthcare issues identified in the Francis report implied that care standards have deprived in a significant manner. In this regard, NHS Constitution is a regulatory body provides values as well as principles based on which nurses are required to develop their behaviours. The values as well as principles offer legal rights along with pledges for nursing practices. In this regard, nurses performing operations in adherence with prescribed values as well as principles are able to provide high quality care to patients. Similarly, 6 C’s comprise six important values that include care, competence, compassion, courage, commitment and communication that are implemented by NHS with the intention of ensuring that nurses are able to conduct their operations based on the care as well as treatment needs of patients. Respectively, nurses are required to possess the aforementioned values with the aim of providing high quality care consistently and compassionately. It is apparently determined that communication for personal and professional development in nursing profession largely signifies the fact that for a nursing professional communication has wide existence and is not merely related to communicating with the patient and his/her family members. I have also identified from Francis report that the Mid-Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust has been facing issues relating to different factors that included ineffective communication, inefficient control from senior management and non-adherence to professional standards. In this regard, certain amendments are made in nursing practices and values, so that quality care as well as improved treatment services is offered to patients as first priority. Subsequently, changes are made in the standards and values of NMC and NHS respectively. NHS implemented 6 C’s of nursing in order to develop the attributes and the competency of nurses, so that superior quality care is offered to patients. I have realised that changes in the values and the standards of nursing practices have changed the learning of nurses. In this regard, learning is seemed to play an effective role in developing competencies of nurses, so that nurses are able to conduct their nursing operations based on the needs and requirements of patients. Additionally, learning would assist me as a nursing professional in conducting my required services based on current nursing practices and standards. In this context, with the aid of adequate knowledge and understanding of nursing values as well as standards, I would be able to ensure high quality care to patients.
