The author here keeps a question in front of us which is a clear indication of helplessness among the population in Haiti. They are the ones who have suffered always. The people kept on asking this same question each and every night without any response in return. This was the first night of many ones which were supposed to come as the after-effects of the earthquake. The author describes the damages in the form of corpses mainly that lay across the chaotic city. Gradually out of those moments of hopelessness and despair started the beginning of a new light and the people started accepting their losses.

They had seen the worse, now from this moment onwards, things could only get better. Haiti has failed time and again and has faced issues like poverty and political unrest.
