As mentioned by Freed in “Say Hi or Die”, one of the major causes of violence is strongly associated with the state government’s leniency when it comes to allowing the civilians to purchase and acquire their own guns (pp. 86 – 87). Since a lot of people fear for their own safety against individuals with criminal records, thousands of people throughout the state of Los Angeles carry guns wherever they go. Instead of implementing a strict legislation related to the selling of guns, Americans are more focused on tightening the ‘Law and Order’ which legally gives them the power to put anyone who is caught of committing crimes behind bars (Freed, p. 87). The problem with this type of legal arrangement is that it fails to prevent and protect the people from becoming a victim of criminal offenses.

Insufficient Freeway Construction Increases Crime Rates in FreewaysJonston’s “Road Warrior of the Freeways” mentioned that the government failed to provide a sufficient freeway construction based on the population growth. (p. 76) As a result, traffic congestion becomes inevitable especially during peak hours. Considering the stressful life most people are living and the traffic congestion, gun owners on freeways easily loses their temper. As a result, innocent people become a victim of uncontrollable shootings (Johnston, p. 76). Such incidence increases the general public’s fear of becoming a victim of a crime.

Because of fear, a lot of motorists in L.A. have become more ‘polite’ and avoids the possibility of ‘offending other drivers’ (Freed, p. 87).Safety Precautions Minimizes the Possibility of Endangering OneselfNot all deaths are caused by criminal activities associated with the use of deadly weapons. Some people can also lose their lives due to lack of safety precautions. For this reason, prevention is always better than having to face the consequences of an accident. In line with this matter, Cross highlighted the importance of ‘safety campaings’ (p. 81). ConclusionHumans need to feel safe to live a normal life.

Although accidents happen within the comfort of our own home, it is a fact that the number of criminal cases that occurs in Los Angeles remains high. Aside from accidents, the main causes of crimal cases in L.A. is related with the state government’s leniency when it comes to the selling of guns and lack of safety precautions.
