Mixed Strategies GRACE SARKAR Order No. 340898 25 November 2009 MIXED STRATEGIES Thesis College life is a place for serious studies and definitely not a place for romance. I learnt it through my own first hand experience. Romances do take place in colleges. But these are exceptional, not the rule.MythosIn school I considered college an important albeit a dull option. In fact, it was necessary to go to college and obtain a degree. The best jobs went to those who held a degree. Hence, there was no question about attending college.

It had to be done. But I was not particularly looking forward to a life in college. If anything, I dreaded it. I thought I knew college life. It was the place for serious studies. But it was frequented by students who were hell bent on creating problems. I had heard a few cases where girls had eloped with boys in college. I had also heard about university elections and the fights that took place during the elections, sometimes even leading to murder. It confused me. Did students really study in college Or did they go there only to pass time and fix dates with the opposite sex However, the picture cleared when I completed school and entered college.

LogosMy first day in college was not very eventful. It was just like any school day. However, we were no longer kids. We were grown up. I stayed put with students who had passed out of the same school. But there were some anxious moments with the seniors targeting us as butts of their jokes. I was called by a few seniors and told to compliment a girl on her good looks. I did not do it. But one of my colleagues did! There were a few lectures that I attended. Some professors were absent due to which we missed some lectures.

I had opted for the commerce stream. The class rooms were crammed with about 60 students. I was told there were about a 100 in some class rooms. But the number of students did not bother me. I could clearly hear what the professor was teaching from where I was seated. I realized that college life was not much different from what I had heard. There were stray cases of boys meeting girls for social purposes. I had girls in my group. However, I did not have any special girl friend. I deliberately kept away from such tendencies and focused on my studies.

EthosI was serious about my studies. I did not wish to waste time and energy in wrong pursuits, and certainly not in pursuit of girls. As compared to school, college years were few. I intended to devote my time to studies. I did like certain girls. But I knew they were not those I could consider as my life partners. So I did not broach the subject with them and discouraged any such attempts from the other side. There was one particular girl who was quite close to me. I did not mind it. She often told me about boys who visited her home for matrimonial purposes.

However, she wisely let her parents deal in such situations. ReflectionI must admit college life was fun. It was a good mixture of studies and socializing. But if you knew where to set the limits, you were safe and assured of doing well in studies. I had a group of similar-minded friends. We kept to ourselves and nobody unduly bothered us. College is another important step in life's progress. It is a milestone that does one good for the whole life time.Sources:Essays About Logos, http://www.exampleessays.
