"Fungi and Food Spoilage" is a great example of a paper on food and nutrition.
a) Mechanical digestion is the breaking down of food into smaller parts by mechanical body movements, like chewing. Chemical digestion involves the breaking down of food particles into smaller molecules by enzymes, acids, and other substances.
  1. b) HCl kills bacteria and starts the process of breaking protein down into amino acids.
  2. c) The small intestine continues digestion and most absorption takes place here. The large intestine finishes digestion by absorbing excess water and salts, then storing waste for       
  3. a) Food spoilage is the decay of food to a point beyond the human desire for consumption. It occurs due to factors like bacteria, other invading microorganisms, exposure to certain chemicals, and overexposure to light (Pitt & Hocking, 2009).
  4. b) The four most important things for food safety are cleanliness, cross-contamination,  proper storage, and proper preparation (cooking).
  5. c) Organic foods are produced with methods that exclude pesticides, irradiation, and other synthetic factors. Traditional farms must meet organic standards (above, plus     uncontaminated soil, and approved methods) for a period of 2-3 years before            
  6. Carbohydrates can be broken down into sugars used for energy.
  7. Regular physical activity promotes good health in many ways, including psychologically. Plus it can strengthen and tone muscles.
  8. Fats are a source of essential acids and enable the transport of several vitamins.
  9. Protein provides amino acids for bio-structural processes. Also acts as an emergency fuel.
  10. Water has a key role in almost every body process and requires constant replenishment.
  11. Dehydration impairs the body and mind due to tissue water loss, blood volume loss, and electrolyte loss. Can be fatal in severe situations.
  12. The skeletal system provides a framework for the body, supports against gravity, permits movement in joints, protection, blood cells from the marrow, and storage for calcium and other substances.
  13. Dietary supplements are concoctions that provide nutrients, vitamins, or any number of substances that may be lacking in a diet or insufficiently utilized in the body.
