"The Healthy Plate" is a perfect example of a paper on food and nutrition. This is a current US nutrition guide comprising of four food groups per meal proposed in 2011 after outlawing the MyPyramid method (Messinger 52). The guide advocates one meal should have 30% bowls of cereal, 30% vegetables, 20% fruits, and 20% protein besides a glass of nonfat milk.

Advantages

  • The method is straightforward to comprehend because its emphasis entails the inclusion of more fruits plus vegetables.
  • It allows the family to discuss those foods, which they love, but in accordance with the necessary visual’s proportions.

Disadvantages

  • The guide does not show exactly what should comprise each food group, hence it hard for the people to match the required proportions (Messinger 53).
  • The guide is extremely hard to implement especially for the manufacturers who process packaged foods.
  • Different foods in a day do not entail the same amounts whereby the guide does not give specifications regarding them, for example, breakfast (Knight 53).

Harvard Healthy Plate

            This guide’s emphasis entails shunning weight gain and other related chronic maladies, for example, diabetes (Harvard Medical School 6). Hence, it advocates the taking of plant diets rich in vegetables, cereals, both healthy fats and proteins with water.

Advantages

  • The visual representation is more elaborative compared to the MyPlate guide (Knight 53).
  • The guide offers directions concerning how one can keep healthy when using certain diets like proteins.
  • The guide offers variance in selecting the essential foods, which is contrary to the Myplate. Since the latter emphasizes that on each course there must be a skimmed milk.
  • Its emphasis is free from politics encompassing choices of foods due to its moderating nature.

Disadvantages

  • It may be confusing to some people especially those experiencing chronic conditions, whereby medical practitioners have prohibited them from taking certain foods, for illustration coffee and alcohol.

Idaho Plate Method

            This guide stresses high fiber ingestion but less cholesterol and fat quantities. (Snelling & Karen 111)  Mainly, the method is best for diabetic people or those who may be experiencing cognitive difficulties in interpreting other plates’ visuals.

Advantages

  • It is best for diabetic people.
  • Cheap for people who may not have time meant to plan for their meals.
  • It is clear to construe.

Disadvantages

  • Its visual plate is not elaborative like that of Harvard Healthy Plate.

            I prefer Harvard Healthy Plate. Since, it expounds on each section regarding diverse foods that comprise it. Besides, the nutritional guide’s emphasis is moderate compared to other methods, hence shunning foods’ politics that may end up confusing who have preferred them (Harvard Medical School 6).
