Extract of sample "Achieving Quality Amid a Shortage of Nursing Staff"

"Achieving Quality Amid a Shortage of Nursing Staff" is an outstanding example of a paper on the health system.
The purpose of the strategic plan is to achieve high levels of quality and safety in health care delivery despite a low number of nurses. The strategic plan proposes the identification of the strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats within the organization that could either enhance or hinder the achievement of the objective. This approach to achieving the identified objectives provides the best solution as a SWOT analysis helps identify specific areas within the organization that could be exploited to achieve the best results (Laureate Education, 2013f). In addition, a SWOT analysis approach will help in identifying areas or processes to prioritize and direct the limited available resources (White and Blaiser, 2011).

Objectives

Objectives of the strategic plan include:

  1. To equip the few available nurses with essential skills, knowledge, and abilities.
  2. To improve and advance stakeholders' relationships
  3. To influence the number of students preferring nursing as a career.

Risks and opportunities

The strategic plan to achieve high levels of quality and safety in health care delivery despite a low number of nursing staff aims on focusing on existing opportunities within the workplace. On e of the opportunities to focus on is the manifest partnership of my organization with the local communities and local leaders. This kind of partnership will help develop a positive relationship with the local communities as one of the stakeholders. Local leaders and the community, in general, are better positioned to persuade young people within the community to join the nursing field. The second opportunity I will focus on is opportunities for growth. In giving equal opportunities for growth, nurses will be motivated to advance their skills and abilities in order to gain promotions (). In terms of threats, implementation of the strategic plan is likely to encounter resistance and insufficient funds to finance the program. One other factor that will have a positive influence on the strategic plan includes a culture of teamwork and collaboration.

The solution

The solutions to the achievement of the projected objectives include:

  1. Conducting numerous training and workshops with an intention of giving the few available nurses deliberate on ways to achieve positive outcomes.
  2. Involving all stakeholders in designing and implementing the strategic plan in order to eliminate the likelihood of disagreements.
  3. Directing the available resources only to areas likely to facilitate achievement of better results in an effort to address the insufficiency of resources.

Resource details

Physical and financial resources needed during the implementation of the strategic plan include:

  1. Human resource particularly nurses and other support staff
  2. Cash to finance the program
  3. Equipment to improve the efficiency of services such as computers

The management team

The core team members for the implementation of the strategic plan include nurses, physicians, and other support staff involved in the provision of care. This team will be involved in the direct implementation of the strategic plan.  Other stakeholders such as the local community, local leaders, government organizations, and non-governmental organizations will also be involved in the implementation of the strategic plan. The local leaders and local community will influence the ratio of nursing school admissions, government organizations will be responsible for ensuring the achievement of high levels of standards in line with national and international standards. Non-governmental organizations will act as advocates for quality and safety and also as donors to finance the project.
