PROJECT PROPOSAL: INTRODUCING THE CONCEPT OF INTELLIGENT SOLUTIONS AND WISE MANAGEMENT OF ANY ORGANIZATION AS A MANAGEMENT TOOL SIGNATURE: INSTITUTION: COLLEGE: DEPARTMENT: ADMISSION NUMBER: SUPERVISOR: SIGNATURE: DATE: SUBMITTED: INTRODUCTION The project will be called “INTRODUCING THE CONCEPT OF INTELLIGENT SOLUTIONS AND WISE MANAGEMENT OF ANY ORGANIZATION AS A MANAGEMENT TOOL”. This proposal is about ways of managing organizations wisely and is designed to introduce the concept of intelligent solutions and wise management to any organization in both the public and the private sectors. The proposal is classified under the principles and tactics of management. The project will help create a model to be used by managers in providing intelligent solutions to organizational problems and wise management guidelines to help managers make the best decisions for their organizations. This project will base the research on a sample of organizations in Kuwait, Dubai and Istanbul. The study is designed to make inferences that can apply to a wide population that is, the whole world. Management is a field of study that keeps on changing each and every other day. There is a need to keep on revising the current trends, the traditional practices and researching on the future techniques that are going to be applied in management of organizations. Management is a key factor to performance for almost every organization in the whole world. Use of wise techniques in providing intelligent solutions to organizational problems will highly help organizations to achieve their goals successfully. The project will entail a detailed research for primary data in Kuwait, Dubai and Istanbul and secondary data from books, journals and other publications that contain data relevant to the study. The data will be carefully analyzed and presented as findings. Conclusions and recommendations about the findings will then be made. This will be both quantitative and qualitative recommendations. The goal of this project will be to introduce the concepts of wise management and intelligent solution as a management tool. The goal is considered SMART (specific, measurable, achievable, realistic and time bound) due to the following reasons; the recommendations are to show a guideline of generating intelligent solutions to problems and making wise management decisions (Taylor, 2009). The study will show the levels of management and how the strategies inferred are going to be allocated to various levels of management. The goals are attainable since the study is wide and from different locations thus, the recommendations will consecutively be realistic. The projects goals will have a time frame of six months starting from the commencement of the project. The goal highlighted above is indirectly the hypothesis of the study. LITERATURE REVIEW Management is faced with a lot of challenges and obstacles in practice. The study will reveal how the challenges and obstacles affect the organizations and how to tackle them. For example, in Kuwait, people are very tribal and self centered. Managers will find it difficult in organizing, coordinating and controlling them. They will prefer dealing with people of their own tribe, people they know and many other social issues. This necessitates a study to improve the sharpness of managers in terms of skill and experience. Organizations are always ready to offer good salaries and allowances to managers in exchange for their quality service. This study will help potential managers to understand the importance of quality/wise techniques in making management decisions. This will benefit organizations like government, civil service, financial firms, commercial firms, educational institutions, NGOs and many other institutions. Ever since the 19th century, many organizations have adopted the traditional five techniques of management. They were: planning, organizing, implementation, inspection and human resource management. Changes in business and other areas have created demand for further studies in the sector. With time, other tools have been introduced in the career. For example: decision making, coordinating, supervising, negotiating, controlling among many others. Currently, the main goal is to create a forum through which the mentioned tools can be integrated together to make optimal performance in the management departments. A wise decision by a manager can save the whole company from a big problem. This is through provision of intelligent solutions (Kelzner, 2009). In the modern world, big organizations are using intelligent systems/ expert systems to solve managerial problems. The computer systems are able to receive input and make infinite calculations without errors. They will consider all input data and apply it in decision making. Computer systems are not affected by emotions. They can work for 24 hours, 7 days a week. They do not need to rest or coffee breaks. The management sector has adopted such technology due to the above advantages among others. The computers will always generate intelligent solutions in time and effectively. They are cheap and easy to operate. Their solutions to problems are not biased by the previous problems solved. In Turkey, two management systems have dominated to date. One is the old classical management system that is being faced out and the other is the quality management system that is being used extensively (Kozlemenyek, 2007). This system (quality management) concentrates mainly on the customer, the quality of service and the future goals of the firm. The tools are not enough to feed the ever changing field since other factors come into play with time, new discoveries, diversification and social political issues. This has created interest in further study to explore new/wise techniques to solve current problems and stay on the competition line. The framework of this study will be the types of management techniques, systems used in the management department; challenges faced by managers, management decisions, elements of a good management system and management competencies. QUESTIONS OF THE STUDY 1. What are the challenges faced by the management systems in the three countries? This will be to analyze the management systems in Dubai, Kuwait and Istanbul. The ways of management of organizations are going to be analyzed and recommendations made about improving them and maintaining quality. The concept of wise management is going to be analyzed in detail. 2. What are the similarities and differences between the management techniques used in the three countries? To compare the management systems in Istanbul and Dubai to Kuwait. Comparisons will help analyze the factors influencing management decisions, effects of different business climates and the common challenges faced by the differently situated managers. This will introduce the concept of wise management. 3. What are intelligent decisions, what strategies should a manager apply to make such decisions, what factors influence such decisions and how do they affect the management system? The study will also analyze ways of making intelligent management decisions and factors affecting such decisions. All problem solving will be analyzed in detail. The strategies adopted by different managers will also be analyzed and compared within the sample space adopted by the researcher. ANALYSIS TOOLS AND METHODOLOGY METHODOLOGY The study will involve qualitative analysis and quantitative analysis. Qualitative data will be acquired generally from the secondary data like magazines, newsletters and other publications. The quantitative data will basically come from the research done. This means that a study is to be conducted in the three countries. Data will be collected in questionnaires (both oral and written). Interviews shall also be conducted by the researcher to popular managers to analyze their real life experiences and challenges. This will constitute the primary data. More data shall be collected from online sources like online interviews, forums, social pages and related studies. Secondary data will be basically qualitative. It will be collected from the media, educational institutions, research institutions, journals, books, articles, other interviews and online sources. The data will be processed to meaningful information that can be used for making inferences. The tools to be used for analysis are discussed below. All the findings are to be carefully discussed and conclusions derived from them. The researcher is then going to make recommendations based on the conclusions and findings. The recommendations should also be SMARTA (Specific, measurable, attainable, realistic, time bound and agreed). MARKET RESEARCH This will involve going to different areas and meeting several managers. The researcher will collect data in forms of questionnaires, interviews, reading, discussions and forums. The researcher shall have to be brave to face and question managers who are not conversant with being questioned too much. The researcher will also have to set time for requesting for appointments (Nebiu, 2002). He shall plan interview spots and the criteria to be used (research project management principles). TOOLS The study will constitute of a tool called SPSS (statistical package for social sciences). This software is easy to operate and analyze both qualitative and quantitative data. It has a high capacity and accuracy. This means that statistical calculations will be simple and fast to calculate. Some data will also be analyzed using the excel program. This is strictly quantitative data (not all). This will help make mathematical and/or statistical calculations easily and accurately. Excel is a Microsoft program that helps users analyze data on a spreadsheet and derive functions, tables, charts, statistical calculations and many other treatments. It also helps the user test hypotheses and makes conclusions about the data. The program is very compatible to other programs. It is universal and hence the choice. CONCLUSION The project will have a conclusion as the second last chapter. The last chapter will be recommendation. The conclusion will highlight the major findings of the project. Other factors that might have affected the findings are also going to be analyzed. This includes financial constraints, sample size, reluctant respondents, and quality of trust from the data sources among many other factors. FORMAT The project will have the following format: Title page Declaration Acknowledgement Dedication Executive summary Table of contents Chapter 1: Introduction Chapter 2: literature review Chapter 3: methodology Chapter 4: findings Chapter 5: conclusion Chapter 6: recommendations. Time line The project will take an average of six months. The first month will be to research the background of the study, literature review and all other necessary details for the study. I will also design all the factors to be studied and suggest the sources. The second month will be to formulate the relevant methodology for the study and study its properties. I will plan the application of each model and the required data type and source. I will also classify all the data into quantitative and qualitative. The third, fourth and fifth month will be the busiest. I will go and collect data from the three countries while at the same time collecting data from other sources like the internet, newspapers, magazines and other publications. The third month I will visit Turkey-Istanbul, the fourth I will visit Dubai- UAE (United Arab Emirates), while the fifth I will visit Kuwait. The sixth month will be the last. I will compile all the data collected, analyze it using SPSS (statistical program for social sciences), integrate the findings and then draft the conclusions. During this face of the project, I will have all the necessary details that I will need for the completion of the study. After testing the results and being satisfied that they are correct and useful, I will then type the whole project according to the format shown above and present it as an original work of myself for use by the institution and any other interested party. The last week of the sixth month will also include the generation of the executive summary of the whole project as an abstract. BUDGET AND RESOURCES This project is cheap but the cost will be quite inflated by the travelling costs to the three countries. The resources needed shall be travelling costs (fare, accommodation, meals etcetera.), cost of purchasing newspapers, magazines and journals; library subscriptions; cost of purchasing secondary data from research companies, cost of organizing forums over the internet. The proposed budget will be as follows: COST DESCRIPTION COST Travelling costs (fare, accommodation and meals) $150,000 Cost of purchasing newspapers, magazines and journals $500 Cost of purchasing data from research companies $400 Libraries’ subscriptions $100 Subscriptions for organizing forums $50 Cost incurred in organizing interviews and filling research questionnaires $550 Other costs $400 TOTAL $152000 REFERENCES Anonymous: Research project management principles.
