The Aspect of Energy in Establishing Azerbaijan National Security Strategy - Research Paper Example

SOCAR is the official oil producing company in the country and has entered into agreement with several countries for oil export and oil transport through pipe lines. This state owned company is also responsible for the maintenance of the oil and gas pipelines from Azerbaijan to other countries, managing the oil and natural gas imports and exports of the country, exploring the oil wealth of the country, establishing oil and gas export agreements with foreign companies and is the interface between Azerbaijan republic and international oil consortia.

Thus the foreign policies and regional cooperative measures between Azerbaijan and it’s neighboring countries greatly depend on the production and transportation of oil and natural gas. The geographical location of Azerbaijan also provides the advantage to act as a major means for cross-transportation between the east and the west. In its effort to develop the energy exports, Azerbaijan faces threat due to the entry of illegal weapons, terrorist migration along the pipelines. The Ministry of National Security (MNS) of Azerbaijan takes care of the issues related to national security.

This agency has ties with various foreign agencies in the field of national and international intelligence. The national security policies of Azerbaijan are defined by a set of goals called as The National Security Concept and are prescribed by the MNS.Based on the research scenario, this research has conducted a quantitative survey over a sample size of 100 participants. The opinion of these participants have been collected quantitatively with the aid of a questionnaire. The questionnaire has been based on the research hypotheses, that the oil and natural gas (energy) play a major role in the economical growth of Azerbaijan and the oil transportation through pipelines pose threats for the national security of Azerbaijan in terms of terrorist migration.
