The Future: Six Drivers of Global Change by Al Gore Abstract The world is changing fast and becoming increasingly integrated and complex. Al Gore identifies six factors that are key issues to global change. The factors discussed include; Work – movement of labor outsourcing. In communication, wide spread of internet has led to diversification of information and ability of people to connect instantly. In power, there is a shift of power and shift from national government to smaller group organizations. In demographics, there is the increase in population and movements of people. In biotechnology, there is increased manipulation of DNA structures used in reproduction of new organism. In climate changes, there are global climatic changes by global warming as a result of continued build up of carbon dioxide and other pollutants. Gore focuses on these key drivers of change to benefit the world from the potential dangers. Key words; Robo-sourcing and Outsourcing Review: The Future: Six Drivers of Global Change While researching about text written drivers of global change, I found the author Al Gore who published books about environmental activism, political science and particularly about global change. The author’s main objective of writing this work is to come up with drivers of change that will help the world find solutions to the potential dangers of six major issues that impact the world. Al Gore was born on March 31, 1948 in Washington D.C. He was a former vice president of US. He is known for his works regarding environmental activism. Al Gore studied in the Harvard University and Vanderbilt University. Al Gore shows his expertise in political science and climate change. His work flows as he keeps throwing out facts and proof of his argument (Al Gore, 2014). Where his ideas are still in progress, the arguments are not as strong. To achieve this goal, I have arranged my review in four major segments of Al Gore book review and subsections. I have provided an account of the purpose of Al Gore work on global change. KEY DRIVERS OF GLOBAL CHANGE Work Al Gore argument on work focuses on the major dangers is increase robosourcing (i.e. shift towards automation) of labor threatens large population globally of gaining employment. The major solution is to increase wealth among few who earn in bulk to public services that government provides. (Al Gore, 2014). Power Al Gore’s argument on power, states that the major danger is major private interest groups that have continuously earned power, increasingly running up against the interests and values of private citizens. Al Gore argumentative solution is to reform the balance of interest of corporations to the interest of citizens. This will promote democracy to both interest groups (Al Gore, 2014). Demographics Al Gore focuses on demographics. The major contributing factor of danger is the continued increase of world’s population which places unbearable exploitation of natural resources hence it leads to depletion of resources (Al Gore, 2014). The major solution borrowed by Al Gore is to control global population and introduce more efforts to reduce exploitation and make a sustainable level of these resources. Biotechnology Al Gore’s focus on biotechnology states that, major dangers occur in the discoveries and innovations made by human. Biotechnology is introduced and implemented at a much faster rate than we consider on their implications and negative impacts. The solution of subject innovations and discoveries made by human is to publicly debate and inquire more information to make comprehensive decisions on what is to be allowed. Climatic Change This is a key issue. Al Gore focuses on the irreversible and diverse climatic effects of compromising the world’s sources of water and arable land to the level of not being able to keep up with our needs. According to Al Gore, the major solutions that the world and different governments should do are to introduce the developing new actions of strategizing and measurements of reducing carbon dioxide emissions (Al Gore, 2014). The Government should introduce trade system and subsidies to renewable energy sources corporations. Communication Al Gore focuses on widespread of internet connectivity; that threats vulnerability of personal information which includes the organization’s operational information that is collected by corporations or government organization then used in evil and wicked by self interest purpose. The major solution to this despicable act is implementing new measures that ensure protection of information and policies that preserve individual privacy (Al Gore, 2014). The importance of this work opposed to earlier research studies done by Al Gore focuses on connectivity of six major issues, as opposed to one major issue on impact to humanity. Globalization and automation of work, power of private interest groups, connectivity of information through internet technology, limitation in democracy especially in the United States, climatic changes, demographics and need for global views than views of the state. Evaluation of pros and cons of globalization People have created an interconnection of information and money flow for fast and efficient purposes. Globalization tidal wave has increased production of goods and services. The following are some of the pros and cons to consider in conclusion to Al Gore research studies. Positive of Globalization Al Gore’s argument of positive globalization includes the following; Al Gore’s purpose for globalization results to free trades that create a way for economic growth by creating jobs. This brings the point of competition between companies which result to reduction in prices to cover a bigger market demand. Globalization opens up opportunities to poor countries that see it through democracy and human rights (Al Gore, 2014). Globalization and democracy should go hand in hand in increasing global economy by promoting mutual trust and respect. The two power blocks will promote business for the involved countries. This will create international market for consumers of different countries. Globalization gradually creates world’s power by promoting unity in the world by merging of political powers and common pool of decision making. By creating a common pool of decision making, the world will benefit as compared to compartmentalized power sectors. Globalization promotes interconnection and hence, benefits many countries to share information. With sharing of information, it results to the sharing and borrowing of cultural activities between different countries. Al Gore’s purpose for global changes is to promote globalization through government and sharing of common financial interests. Globalization has resulted to social tolerance with people of different countries and therefore promoting world wide economy (Al Gore, 2014). Speeds in interconnection and sharing of information through internet are promoted by globalization. Negative of Globalization Al Gore’s argument of positive globalization includes the following; Globalization has resulted to promotion of bigger gap in social and economical classes of rich becoming richer and poor become poorer. This only benefits the private interest players (government and organizations). Globalization has some negative effects on natural resources caused by mismanagement of international organizations. International organizations are accused of lack of concern regarding to environmental and ecological damages. International organizations and corporations are gaining power as a result to globalization hence, influencing political decisions (Al Gore, 2014). Al Gore research studies focuses on the injustice of rich corporations working under minimal accountability compared to low financed organizations. With global changes there is inequality reported in major parts of the world. With reference to Al Gore, global changes to globalization have resulted to wide spread of communicable diseases as HIV/AIDS. Globalization has resulted to an increase in human trafficking and exploitation of labor in children. It has also resulted to employees working under inhuman conditions. Deficits of economic breaking of globalization have pressured social welfare schemes. Analysis of strength and limitation Al Gore’s research is very interesting because he focuses on the world and guiding global change. This research helps to get the bigger picture of where the world is heading. The approach to the title of his work is very well put for readers to know what is discussed in his book (Al Gore, 2014). Al Gore is open- minded in his work approach on six major issues of global change and solutions to the world’s problems. The solution mostly involves the regulations mostly put by the government either directly or indirectly. There is little solution from the bottom- up model which is a shortcoming for this book. Al Gore’s chapters give solutions to every problem in the book or other better alternatives if possible. Al Gore’s work is precise given chapter The Global Mind; addresses Arab spring and occupy recent actions that are revolutionary. These actions have shared information and social networks than the later works. (Al Gore, 2014). Work Cited Al Gore, Albert. The Future. 2014. Print. Gore Read More
