BOOK REPORT/REVIEW, ENGLISH Introduction Will he even recognize me? This paper delves in the analysis of the Happiest refugee by Ahn Do. The paper has discussed the various forms that one gets mentored by the various people. In the introductory part of the book, we are introduced to a young lady who goes to town to search for the long lost father. We are told that the father has been away for the past nine years that was when the girl was thirteen years of age, a young teenager. It is quite normal to perceive various persons as mentors. In the book, it is also noted that the father only made an attempt and called when the girl turned eighteen years of age. We are even told of the attitude and the bad feeling that the girl had when the father made the phone call and she records that she hated him and went ahead to hang up the call just to cut the conversation. The reason being, the father was drunk and this made him feel bad. She gets upset the various behavior that dad whom he looks up to engages himself in. (Ahn 2011). The narrator, the writer also explains under the preface of the book of the various biological changes and the ways in which nature has taken its course in various ways. She says that the father left their home one night when she was young but currently she has grown tall. All these are highlighted in the earlier parts of the book (Ahn 2011). The rescue love In chapter one of the book, we are introduced to a young lady who is at the station with the other passengers. She sells fruits for in town as well as the in the train and her family relies on this. This is how at one point I came to be helped by one of the people whom I did not even recognize in the college. She tries to enter the train after the slow down and she becomes quite lucky when a man grabs her by the elbow just to make her board the train. The writer gives the story of how his mum and dad came to have fallen in love during their times of seduction. In my case, I had not completed the registration fees for the exam enrollment and to my luck; a man came and assisted me. The writer narrates how the dad assisted the older people and the others that he did not even know just to get seats in the train (Ahn 2011). The communist re-education camps The writer again in chapter one discusses about her two uncles who also got involved in the fight together with the American Australian military personnel during the peace keeping in the country. This was with the reason that they were able to get new challenges in the service for the communist government. In the same episode, there is the case of the writer’s uncle, Thanh, he was infected with a medical condition and had to seek medical services while still in the camp. To the surprise of the people, the whole operation was executed by the doctor and his life was at a threat, luckily enough he survived despite being in the coffin as he was put. It was to the disbelief of one of the security officers that came to find him on the floor as it is highlighted in the book in page six, he shouted,” Jesus, one of them is alive”. This was not to the anticipation of the many people who saw and even knew how the whole exercise happened. However, he survived the process but he was rendered infertile and could not therefore reproduce biologically. His organs were damaged (Ahn 2011). Investing for the better It is important to highlight that to excel in business, the entrepreneur has to be ready to take the risk and venture into the risky business. Under this topical statement, it is discussed very clearly in the book that there was pooling of resources that was done for an investment initiative. This was the purchase of a boat. It is important to note that financial resources were brought together from the family, relatives as well as the friends just to ensure that at least one could be found. It was very illegal to found operating or just acquiring a boat and the penalty was either being jailed or even killed. However, for the case of the writer the main aim of the boat was for the ferrying of the family, friends as well as the relatives. They had the plans to elope from the area. This is similar to the instance where we were to escape from the harsh conditions that we faced in one of the refugee camps. (Ahn 2011). A narrow escape In this case, the escape comes when the communist boat was followed by the patrolling officers. The happiness came when the soldiers made up their mind not to follow them anymore beyond their area that they surveyed. The people then made a sigh of relief by saying,” Thank you God”, and even others started to clap and cheer while in the boat as it is indicated in the book in page nineteen. This is also similar to the instance we were raided by thieves only to be helped by our neighbor. (Ahn 2011). Thankfulness This was in the case where the aunt as is written in page twenty two made prayers to the Lord, “Hail Mary full of grace, The Lord is with Thee, Blessed are thee amongst women”. Another instance of happiness is the case that is quoted in page twenty four. This was the case where the writer’s mother answered the dad that everything was fine and in quotes as indicated, Thank God we’re still alive” (Ahn 2011). Recommendation It is therefore important to highlight that in as much as we have people as role models, their challenges as well as the wrongs that they do should not affect us in any way.
