How to Draft, Structure and Write a Good ArgumentWriting today is a superb guide to students learning on how to write and structure their essays. Its simplistic approach is centred on different writing genres. Additionally, the book incorporates sample papers from students that reinforce what is found in the text. The wide array of genres covered by the author is quite helpful to students embarking on freshman writing. As such, writing today enables and guides students to break from the monotonous highly structured writing styles often taught in school.

To simplify writing for students, the book adopts an easy to navigate layout accompanied by informative and clear writing. Chapter 10 is based on how to draft, structure and write a good argument. An essay’s argument has the capability and power to change people’s minds and opinions about a topic. Therefore, knowing how to write a good comprehensible argumentative essay is a necessary skill. To get started, writing today recommends inventing the argument’s main content. This can be simplified further to mean that the student needs to pick a topic and think about the points available to support the essay’s argument.

Secondly, the student should organize and draft the essay’s argument. The pros and cons of the topic have to be analysed in detail. Consequently, the student should pick or choose hi/her stance from this point onwards. Next, an appropriate writing style is then applied to the essay. The writing style part is very critical, hence it needs careful attention. The writer then designs the argument to match his opinion or audience using the relevant writing style. Lastly, revising and editing the argument enables grammatical mistakes, writing style errors and other corrections to be detected and rectified.
