A Letter to a Younger Sister Dear sister, I hope that you are in good health and that God’s mercies are ensuring your safety and protection. You are now growing and approaching adolescence and will soon become an adult. I find it important to share with you significant and important information concerning adolescence. Adolescence is a stage in development that succeeds childhood and comes with many changes. Most of the challenges attribute to biological transformations that may result or translate to achievement or disappointments.

Socio-emotion is an important aspect of human being that defines real characteristics of people (Kail & Cavanaugh, 2013). Positive socio-emotions can make a good and responsible person capable of ensuring harmonious relationship with people within their environments. Negative socio-emotions on the other hand can result to irresponsible conducts and behaviors that may compromise the social skills and relations with other people. The changes that occur in adolescence can result to either positive or negative socio-emotional skills.

In that line, it is important that you understand occurrences in adolescence that may lead to wanted and unwanted socio-emotions and ways to handle each so that you emerge healthier. Adolescence is a moment that most of the hormonal glands especially those related to sexual development secrete most hormones. Sometimes, the levels of secretion become high to an extent of contributing to undesired consequences and behaviors. During adolescence, girls begin to experience menstruation, which is a normal occurrence in females.

Menstruation involves discharge of blood and some substances that resemble but are not really flesh. These discharges symbolize significant stage in life of a girl child. During menstruation, some girls tend to experience various physical and physiological changes that may compromise individuals’ mood and socio-emotions. Some girls may withdraw from socializing develop depression for realizing a unique and somewhat strange occurrence. To overcome any frustrations that may accompany menstruation, it is advisable that develop positive understanding and view of the process.

First, you should appreciate that such occurrences signify your transition from childhood to adolescence that will pave way for adulthood. Secondly, it is important for you to consider menstruation process as warning that may use positively to overcome pregnancy. Actually, the contents of menstruation are blood and uterine lining that would otherwise support implantation of embryo should a girl engage in unprotected sex few days prior to the process. Another way of overcoming negative socio-emotions that may accompany menstruation is by consulting with your elders and mother in particular.

This will help you avoid any phobia that may compromise your general health. Another occurrence during adolescence that may affect your socio-emotions is tendency to make many friends. Peer influence is a significant aspect that you need to observe in friendship. Some peer influences may be negative and eventually result to negative socio-emotions. Peer influence can also be positive and capable of promoting good conducts and positive socio-emotions. In your adolescence life, always avoid relationships or friendships that encourage you to try drugs and related substances.

Indulgence into drugs and related substances has the capability of compromising your socio-emotions. Once under the influence of drugs and related substances, individuals tend to suffer from retarded reasoning, and may begin behaving inappropriately (Kail & Cavanaugh, 2013). Drug use lowers individual’s problem solving abilities, which may encourage one to view violence and aggression as best ways to address disagreements and conflicts. To avoid such negative socio-emotions, it is important that you embrace openness to discuss your challenges with other people so that you get help to avoid stress and depression that may lead to social withdrawal.

In conclusion, adolescence is a stage in development that characterizes with many events and occurrences that might compromise your general health if handled inappropriately. Menstruation is one of the biological changes that affect socio-emotion of adolescent girls. Being a new experience menstruation makes some adolescent girls to catch fear that may result to stress, depression and eventually withdrawal. It is important that you consult with your elders about any challenge(s) you encounter as during adolescence so that you receive proper guidance from those with experience.

Friendship can also affect socio-emotions of adolescent girls. Peer influence that results from the trust among friends can attract and encourage individual adolescent girls into using drugs and related substances. Always avoid friendships that encourage antisocial behaviors that may compromise with relations with other people. References Kail, R. & Cavanaugh, J. (2013).
