There was a time when the restaurant was faced with a series of lawsuits regarding the foods the restaurant was selling. One of the lawsuits was based on claims that the restaurant had added too much additives and fillers to its beef to a point where it failed to meet the required standards. The lawsuit affected the operation of the restaurant until the president undertook counter mechanisms. The restaurant released a press notice informing the public on a number of issues deemed of concern relating to the lawsuit. The press release was a counter suit that was undertaken by the president, Creg Creed in consultation with the restaurant’s attorney. It was sent not only to the media houses, but also on social network and YouTube. On January 25th, 2011, the president of Taco Bell, Creg Creed said: “At Taco Bell, we buy our beef from the same trusted brands you find in the supermarket, like Tyson Foods. We start with 100% USDA-inspected beef. Then we simmer it in our proprietary blend of seasonings and spices to give our seasoned beef its signature Taco Bell taste and texture. We are proud of the quality of our beef and identity all the seasoning and spice ingredients on our website. Unfortunately, the lawyers in this case elected to sue first and ask questions later on and got their facts absolutely wrong. We plan to take legal action for the false statements being made about our food.” For National Inquiries: Taco Bell Media Line (949) 863-3915 media@tacobell.com Why this was the most preferred This was one of the most aired stories at the beginning of 2011. The whole issue relating the lawsuit was given such airtime on most media houses based on the intensity of the matters therein. The publicity was also based on the fact that this was one of the most successful restaurants offering mainly first food. Therefore, this was one of its kinds. Few cases of this nature have been heard in the past. Therefore, the suitability of this particular press release is based on the intensity of the matters that were raised in this lawsuit. Advantages Press release is one of the most preferred tools of communicating some information to the customers and other stakeholders. It is effective in communicating emerging issues that cannot be delayed until AGM or any other meeting. This is one of the strategic means of building a brand. Whenever consumers read about or see a certain organization that deals in any product, they are influenced in a certain way regarding their purchases. Therefore, in as much as this is a public relation tool, it can also be used indirectly as marketing strategy. Similarly, the use of press release is one of the less expensive tools used in trying to get information to the public domain. The overall cost incurred compared to the proportion of audience benefiting from the information shows that this is a cheaper way of communicating with the public. At the same time, press release can be used to attract more customers all over the world. Therefore, this is a tool that can benefit the business if well used by the public relations personnel. The issues surrounding Taco Bell are basically caused by the nature of operations that the restaurant deals with. In the recent past, a lot of concerns have been raised against most of the restaurants offering first foods. Most of these concerns touch the health aspect of consumers of these foodstuffs. The restaurant probably has released many press alerts. This is just, but one of them. It is one of the most recent press alerts that the restaurant might have released. Besides, it also touches on the core objectives of the restaurant, which is expansion. The restaurant was widening its base in terms of the kind of products that it offers. This is basically one way of increasing revenue and subsequently the market share of the restaurant. Advantages of Press Alert Press alert serves very many purposes to the organization. Regardless of the size, the nature and the products that an organization is dealing with, press alerts play a very pivotal role in public relations. It is the best way through which an organization can use to convince the audience to attend a certain event. A well-structured press alert will ensure that the target people attend the said meeting. On an overall scale, it is an affordable means of sending this kind of information to a large audience. In dealing with the public, relaying this kind of information by other means may either be too expensive or difficult to execute. The cheaper option would have been use of media like emails, but it is almost impossible since the company may not have the email address of the target audience. To add on that, it is the fastest media through which this kind of information can be transmitted. Compared to other available options through which this information can be delivered, press alert is the most reliable and convenient. References Paine, K.(2011).
