Management of computing resources By Introduction A system resource is any virtual or physical components of limited availability that is found within a computer system. Any device that is connected to a computer is referred to as a resource. The system includes files, memory areas as well as network connections. The information technology department within the education commission has all this resources which have to be managed effectively to prevent resource leaks as well as resource contentions. The computing systems that are utilized in the commission can be managed by putting effective support and help desk system in place. Computer resources within the commission includes aggregate of available software, computer hardware, supplies, documentation, trained personnel and support services that are to be protected. The report is about designing an end user training and support system that will help serve the 5000 work stations of the education commission and whether Google or social media can be utilized to lower the cost of support outlays and IS end user training. Currently the commission is utilizing Microsoft products for the various computing operations that are done on the commission. Computing management The education commission organization is in need of an effective information system that will provide the personnel as well as the management with up to date information regarding the performance of the commission including their future plans, goals and objective. The information may be processed at the central point or headquarter of the commission and dispatched to all the other 5,000 work stations in Australia. Having an effective computing management plan that is evidence based in place will ensure safe passage of information from the sender to the receiver and back. The computers at the various work stations will be joined together with an intension of allowing sharing of resources and data. The management system will be designed to capture, store, transmit, manipulate, retrieve and display the intended information in various work stations. The system will out the information in a form that can be utilized in various workstations. Increased innovation has led to the development of the internet system which has resulted to development of information systems that can be exchanged via web-based emails, extranets and intranets. The technology will allow for faster exchange of information and data between the management and the end user located in various work stations located within and outside the city. Designing an end user training for the various work stations Designing an end user training and support system for the various workstation will depend on numerous factors that will include the cost, the number of the users, the modality of the system, the amount of information that will be processed, the ease in which the failed or outdated components can be replaced, the type of information that will be processed and sent to the end user, the ease of use by the people who will be utilizing the system at the end stations as well as requirement and compatibility of the applications that will be run through the system. Designing an efficient information system will also depend on financial aspects and functional aspects of the system. The technology that will be utilized in the information management and the end user training should be considered. Foresight should be applied when designing a system that can bring rewards into the future, especially in cases where the components of the system are made easier to remove, replace, repair and update without the need of bringing the who system into its knees. A system is said to be down when the information system is rendered inoperative and inaccessible. Designing an end user computer training system and the support system will also incorporate the designing of an efficient informational technology help desk operation. The designing of all these systems have to be cost effective. Designing an help desk operation for the commission The informational technology help desk for the commission will be centrally placed with the aim of providing the users at the work stations with information and support related to the plan of the plan of the commission. The help desk operation will be connected to all the users at the various end and will be tasked with the mandate of providing the necessary ideas, training the required support as needed. The help desk support will be offered through various channels such as websites, toll free numbers, instant messaging as well as emails. The help desk operation for the organization will be used to provide assistance to the end user on gaining assistance in trouble shooting, get answers to the various questions that are asked by the end users. The help desk system will utilize the issue tracking system. The organization will have to put in place the network teams that will be responsible for the hardware, network software as well as infrastructures that will include switches, backups, firewalls, and servers. The network system will all be responsible for the network services that will include file management, email configurations and security issues that will be significant in protecting of the information that is being passed to the end user from the service desk. The service desk will also be connected to the various servers within the organization that will include network shares, network authentication, email accounts, network resources and all the other aspects of server software. It will also include other advanced services like the ones that are related to the storage or content management systems, databases, industry specific server based applications and specialized propriety services. Social media services and systems such as Yammer, Facebook, IBM connections and twitter are currently replacing help desk operations. However, it is more important to consider various approaches that are significant for social media technical support. Social media outlets have presented new approaches of connecting the management to the users even through research has shown that they can hurt the activities of the organization and reduce satisfaction of the users. Social media systems such as facebook, IBM connection, yammer, Instagram’s and LinkedIn have presented new ways of sharing and gathering information from powerful peer to peer relationships.
