?SHFL ENTERTAINMENT LOCAL AREA NETWORK Design of the SMHL Network FIIRST FLOOR WAREHOUSE Warehouse offices RND compliance Sales and operations Showroom Figure 1: Design of SHFL Network Overview The network configuration has a reasonable design and pricing that satisfies most of the requirements of SHFL. It improves the efficiency of work and thus supports the businesses and all possible functions at SHFL Entertainment. It uses star network topology and its network cables are fiber optics as well as unshielded twisted pair network cabling. It recommends 5 APs (access points) to be able to generate and support wireless availability of Internet Connection more than 200 users at the same time. It will also have T3 of 10 Mb/s for connection to the internet; including remote connection to the engineering department through the ATM. The design will use IPSec Virtual Private Network to create connections between different sites and the subsidiaries of SHFL in Vienna. The available options for accounting executives include: IP Sec Virtual Private Network Secure Socket Layer The cost of all equipment required is about US $500000. Core Switch This will act as the access point to the internet or to the WAN. It will link through servers, and will be able to connect switches to collect the workstations of the network and other items. It is the center to the LAN networks in SHFL, through which most of the A great deal of SHFL’s business operations will be conducted over the local area network, such as document processing, file sharing, e-mail, customer relations management, and much more. Therefore, SHFL’s core switch will need to be fast and efficient in order to support SHFL’s operations. The recommended Cisco catalyst is 6506-E switch, priced at US $ 22967.99. We preferred to choose this switch because of its wide bandwidths and the size of its port, being 20 GB – E ports. The network will also consist of 2 Cisco power supplies, each worth US$. 3475.99. We recommend that SHFL procure 2 Cisco Catalyst to solve the redundancy issue. It will supply power to 2 Cisco Catalyst, serialized as 6506 - E. We recommend more investment to solve the problem of power redundancy, such that if one input does not perform well, the other input switches on immediately. One of the Cisco Catalysts will be put in the IDF, first floor of the building (Raza and Turner, 2002). The second one will be put at the MDF office, second floor. This design is expected to improve the consistency of network connectivity and eradicate network downtime and failures. The core switch controls the problem of power outages. Loops are avoided by connecting and disconnection at the switches. Connectivity to Core Switch The recommendation for connection at the core switches is done through the router and other network switches. The mode of connection is through fiber optic cables, to strengthen the network. Fiber Optic is able to transmit data faster and with minimal error rates. The Fiber optic channels will be able to support multiple applications for SHFL workers. The cables are safe from the interference by electromagnetic signals, because its signals pass through a glass cable, which is a non-magnetic material. The electromagnetic interferences do not create noise (Earnhardt, 2006). The transmission through fiber optics goes through very long distances. The budget for expanding network will be about US$10,131.99. Connectivity between Workstations We will have switches to link to the PCs in the SHFL’s LAN. This is because switches as opposed to hubs, allow the LANS for the SHFL to operate effectively by overcoming network congestion. We recommend a network design with 9 switches, to boost the network connectivity speed. Instead of using, fewer switches congested with the traffic. Each of the switches costs US $ 1,588.99. Each LAN in SHFL network will have at least 2 switches through which all PCs and Network devices are connected. The connection can use either RJ cables or Fiber Optics. Internet Connectivity We propose internet connection of at least 10 Mb/s. This will be able to support the multiple applications that run in the SHFL network. At any time SHFL decides to increase its internet connectivity, it contacts and advises its ISP (Browning, 2009). The connection of SHFL will be done through Cisco 2951, a rack mountable router. Routers act as links between the LAN and the Internet Service Provider (Clark, 2013). The router will be connected from the ISP to the network servers in SHFL. Wireless Internet The wireless structure will have two access points on the first floor. One of the access points will link to the IDF of the warehouse. The second floor will have two access points one for the offices and the other for the Legal Department. It will work through radius authentication to meet the required SHFL connectivity. WAN Connectivity We the use of VPN and IPSec in SHFL, which will assist in the establishment of a site – to – site link between the Las Vegas Head Office and its Vienna subsidiaries, Australia. The connections are as shown below: Figure 2: Link between small offices to Head Office. The next aspect that is worth considerinng is the security of the network. One of the strategies is the use of network security apliance.. It also controls security through User Access control. : Figure 3: Las Vegas To Minnesota We propose the connection through ATM because of its guarantee of high-speed connection, being a packet-switched connection of about 622 Mb/s. SHFL will operate in its network by replicating data between its network sites. The data centre will be linked through fiber optics. It will also have large storages. Security Cameras SHFL will have to install Sony IPELA SNC-DH110 / W cameras on its network as the SHFL’s for interior security, and D-Link DCS 7010L HD Mini Bullet for external security. They are both colored to provide realistic surveillance. References Clark, T. (2013). Designing storage area networks: A practical reference for implementing storage area networks.
