Introduction to Human Resource management

Human Resource management has major roles in the building of organizations. It has several sectors which include Human resources planning, recruitment and selection, Human resources development, Employee and labor relations, Safety and Health and the Compensation and benefits sector. All these sectors work independently but in the long run there exists a collective effort of these sectors

Planning

Human resource planning is the section which has the role of structuring the organization. Under the manager's instruction or supervision, there are several plans and restructure of the organization (Dessler, 2000). Office activities and other office practices which are to take place are arranged, in advance and while consideration put on venue and time. Scheduling of activities to take place in an organization is done by the human resource anger. After a series of concurrent activities, their existence of a calendar is a solution to save time and curbs inconvenience in some cases.

In the current organization, we have seen calendars of the next year produced in the previous year. This shows advancement in the sector thus keeps the employees updated in the office calendar (Gomez-Mejia, Balkin & Cardy, 2001). This helps employees schedule their own personal time in relation to the office calendar. For example in a given institution, activities for the next semester are planned in the currents semester likewise to the calendars. Opening and closing dates are clearly stated even before the semester begins, and likewise to events and any other activity related to the institution or that affects the institution either directly or indirect.

Recruitment and selections

Recruitment of staffs is a key role of the human resource manager. Initially, managers could hire and fire staffs any moment. Nowadays the human resource department has taken that role to ensure that an organization has competent employees who are up to the task of ensuring that an organization meets its set standards. Through a thorough and a fair board of vetting and panels, employees feel fair in the mode and systems used to absorb them in a given organization. For instance, when there is a job vacancy in a given institution or organization it is the role of human resource to identify the vacancy, categorize and declare the job position vacant. This will lead to an advertisement in of the vacancy of that very job. Interested candidates apply, and those who qualify are shortlisted and contacted. After contacting the qualified candidates, an interview date is scheduled. In which the HR department will ensure that they employ n individual who will have the skills and expertise that will be in line with the job specification and hence enabling the organization to have a competent team that will enable it offer quality services and products to their esteemed clients and hence meeting their demands.

Recruitment of employees depends on with the organization itself. That is, it might be done annually, weekly, monthly or whatever the period (Joshi, Liao & Martocchio, 2011). It’s the role of the human resource manager to ensure that organization undertakes its recruitment fairly, and the best candidate is recruited.

Selection

Selection is considered to be a turning point in the organization as it may build, improve, maintain or anything can happen as the HR officer will have to select a few who have met the job requirement and be offered an opportunity to work for an organization. After a series of stages, advertisements, the application then finalizes selected and contacted. The next step is to select. This is where the best choice and best employee is selected after answering a set of questions from the panels and the interviewers. Depending with the interviewee, the interviewers choose the best one according to the way he or she answered the questions. In completion of the interview, the successful candidates are contacted for further inquiries while those who fail are handed regret letters for they were not the best according to the panel.

Human Resource Development

In an organization development means and boosting the skills and expertise of employees in an organization. In this case, after the recruitment process, the employees will have to go through, training program, like the leadership training, seminars involving professionals and workshops to the employees. In this case, the human resource department in an organization will have to ensure that the employees are trained in their area of professionalism to ensure that they attain adequate skills and knowledge to enhance the effectiveness of their daily operations. It is the role of Human resource managers to see the most appropriate time and venue to schedule all these through planning. Human resource managers are responsible for the assessment of the employees, monitoring their performances and other factors affecting the organization. Through all these practices the Human resource managers will be able to evaluate the general performance and results of the employees (Schultz, 2012). This in return will make it easy for some decision making to decide if the workforce would benefit from additional training or orientation. That is, the HR has to examine employee performance records to identify areas where employees could improve through job skills training or employee development. The managers have the role to implements both organization and employees development policies to ensure that both an organizational, as well as the employees, attains their set goals and objectives effectively and efficiently.

Safety and health

The human resource is a manager responsible for ensuring that the health care and safety of employees is put in pace. In this case, we have organization booking insurance to its employees. This in return will give its employees to work hard and in the long run, the beneficiary will be both the employer and the employee. The health sector is a key factor to healthy living and working conditions. One cannot perform duties assigned if well if he or she is feeling unwell. Safety too is another factor of that hinders the working conditions. The role of Human Resource manager is to ensure that safety in the workplace or stations is properly taken into considerations.

Compensations and benefits

Compensation comes into consideration in a case where one has lost something in the line of duty or any other situation related to the organization. In this case, the human resources managers are responsible for developing strategic compensation plans, in line with performance management systems with compensation structures. They are the one to make negotiations and ensure they choose most appropriate compensation deals to employees. Good human resource manager responsibilities include monitoring Family and Medical Leave Act compliance and adherence to confidentiality and provisions for employee medical files.

In the medical sector, the employee should have medical insurance that his employer guarantees him her. The insurance cover can cover both the employee and the family. This helps a lot in the general performance of the employee. That is, he or she can attend work guarantee of the employer’s support.

Employee and labor relations

It refers to the services provided by the employee to the employer under the supervision of the human resource manager. In the section of employee and labor, the Human resource manager ensures that labor provides by the employees is well enough to run the organization or the other way round. When there is less supply of labor, then it means there is the need of increasing labor. This means there will be the addition of employees so as to provide more or sufficient labor to the organization. All these activities take place under the supervision and decision made by the human resource manager.

The services offered by the employee should not be in the expected range. The employee should as well perform his or her work under little supervision so as to avoid collision mostly from their managers or supervisors. This in return creates a good working environment as to no worker gets to be harassed or overloaded.

EEO and Affirmative Actions

Offering equal opportunities and chances comes in hand with the responsibilities of a human resource manager. Equal Employment Opportunities (EEO) means that there should be no discrimination of any kind for example race, gender, religion or any other form of racism. Each and every person has got the right to acquire a job and work in any organization. Irrespective of the race, gender and any other form of discrimination no one should be denied any working opportunity. This has been approved by the system whereby there exists a panel or interviewers who examines a candidate's potential and attitudes of performance in a given field.

Generally, equality amongst the employees should be kept as a concern so as to achieve the targets and goals of an organization. This is one of the roles of the human resource manager ensuring each and every employee is rewarding equally or on regards to the employee’s performance.

All the aspects of a manager are important but none is less important than the other. However, all must be implemented as one for a perfect execution. Like for the case of employees rewards and compensation. When an employee is rewarded, he or she tends to work harder next time to get more rewards. The same applies to promotion of employees and anything that benefits the employee. All these work in hand in the general performance of the organization. In comparison to health and safety, any employee can work without a health insurance but put in mind that he or she is endangering his or her life. But the major issue here is the general performance of the employee.

Performance of employees if there is no allocation medical insurance is allocated and safety measures

Employees will be working without any motivational factor. As a result, an organization might end up not attaining its set goals and objectives within a particular set period of time. In this case, the employees might work just because of the salaries they get at given time just to make their ends meet, but they will not be working towards organizational goals and objectives. In this case, an employee might work just because he or she has no other alternative to earn a living. Work might be done, but the general performance of the employees will be poor.

In general, the effort of an employee is measured by his or her performance without any other added allowances, so as to measure the way one can perform without the benefits. If benefits are scraped from an employee pay, slip the performance. When employees are award after every well-done job, then this becomes a habit that they must be appreciated in every well-done job. So in a case or a situation whereby no compensation or reward is given, then the next time employees will work reluctantly. This will lead to a rise of a culture that if no reward then the employees will not perform to their limits. In conclusion, this tells as that no aspect is more important than the other, all aspects act like one. So as to achieve the best general results, all aspects must be put into considerations.

The human resource manager acts as a watchdog in an organization. He ensures that all the aspects are well put in line and well implemented to enable the organization to run well. That is, the department ensures that the employees in an organization remain discipline and adheres to the organizational rules and regulations. On the other hand, the department t also ensures that simplifies the work of an organization. This is through the division of labor and roles that existed and the ones that emerged. Several aspects of a human resource manager work hand in hand with most of the employees thus ensure frequent interactions and mingle amongst the employees.

In conclusion, human resource department in an organization is considered to be a vital department because it has to ensure that an organization has a competent workforce that will enable it to attain its set goals and objectives effectively. In addition, the HR ensures that they provide good working conditions, fair remuneration as well as training and development services to motivate the employees in an organization to enable them to work hard towards attaining set organizational goals and objectives.
