Essay 2-Dancing with my Job I dream that I am the only daughter of an individual such as Bill Gates or Donald Trump. The reason for such adream is the realization that if this were true, I would not need to work until the last day of my life. Likewise, I would not feel the importance for money or the need of resources which I have been so familiar with my entire life. On the other hand, it would be boring if I were to just spend money through my whole life; therefore I would want to engage in other activities as well. In the end, I would rather have a regular life that involves going to work on weekdays than be clueless as to the way in which the rest of the world and the rest of society live. The question asked, of the thousands of jobs what kind of job would be the best and most meaningful for me? I want to have a job that makes me to go to work with a smile – not the type of job that I work merely as a means to survive. To satisfy all of my considerations, being a nurse is the best choice. Someone’s priorities should first be considered when choosing employment. Therefore, the most important of these priorities with relation to nursing is my desire to help people. From my earliest memories, I recall how I loved to help people get better. Sometimes I would do this be merely listening to their problems, other times by offering advice to how they can do something to make a situation better. In this way, being a nurse is the correct career path for me. Nurses listen to patients in order to make inference as to their needs and work to provide a way to ameliorate these needs. Likewise, the skills that I learned in childhood regarding listening and observing the situation prior to offering a change or giving advice have prepared me well for the same skills that being a nurse requires. Being a nurse is one of the only jobs that works to help people in such a direct way and in such a short period of time. As a nurse, one of the patients I treated came from a nursing home. She was experiencing a type of medical problem related to constipation because she had not had a bowel movement for a week. Therefore, doctors ordered many kinds of stool softeners; however they did not work on her. He ordered three different kinds of enemas which I subsequently gave. When I was doing the paper work at the nursing station, my mind was continuing to linger on my patient hoping that the medications had worked. Two hours later I went to the patient’s room to check on the result, she had had a large bowel movement and her face was subsequently very embarrassed as a result. Due to the fact that she was bedridden, the scene was a dirty one to say the least. I told her that she did a great job as I began to clean her up and give her a bath. It is important to note here that nurses should not care whether it is a clean or dirty work as the most important factor is that their services are helping people get well.. In addition to fulfilling my priorities and job functions, being a nurse extends my ability to help patients in the hospital as well as unprivileged people in society. Due to the fact that nurses have medical backgrounds that can be useful to such individuals, I volunteer my time on a regular basis to perform such services. When I was working in a hospital, we had a volunteer club. Once a year we went to the country side to give of our time and services to those that were disadvantaged and would otherwise not be able to afford the cost of a visit to a physician or clinic. During the day time we operated a clinic so people could come to receive medical services. In the evening nurses visited houses seniors lived. As such, we checked blood pressure and glucose levels and performed physical assessments as well as wound care. After that we cleaned the houses, did laundry, and cooked for the seniors. It would be of no use to my patients if I lived in a shelter and sought to ease their suffering. Likewise, it is necessary to earn money and appreciate one’s work in order to be satisfied. Even if a job fulfills everything, it would be a last choice if salaries are very low. To consider this point, being a nurse would be a great choice because nurses make decent salaries as compared to other lines of employment. If I have a minimum wage full time job, I would need to find second job to handle my financial problem. For example, one bedroom apartment is over 900 dollars a month. Minimum wage in California is eight dollars an hour. If I work 40 hours a week, I earn 320 dollars a week and 1280 dollars a month. It is just enough to pay a rent. I would have no time to go to school and need to find another job to for additional living expenses. I would feel exhausted every day and would not want to open eyes in the morning. Everyday I wound feel miserable and under financial pressures to meet my budget for the end and beginning of each and every month. However, as a nurse I have a part time job. This means I need to go to work two day a week, 24 hours a week, but I still can pay my rent, cell phone bill, gas and electricity bill, grocery and clothing. Also I can save some money for tuition every four months. I do not need a second job to pay living costs. Being a nurse makes a life abundant and less stressful with regards to finances. As a result of enough financial support, a nurse can have a chance to receive more education likely to move higher and to achieve a better salary and/or position later in life. Because of adequate salaries, nurses can further pay tuitions for advanced education working as a part time or a full time employee without the need to take out a large sum in student debt. These advanced positions have higher salaries, more prestige, and an increased sense of satisfaction. Likewise, if I have a full time job with minimum wage, it would be impossible to go to school. If I am a daughter of a millionaire, I would not know how valuable money is, and I would not have had a chance to choose a job based on those aspects of this life that I am both interested in and want to help regarding. Likewise, the feeling of excitement of job selection is something else that I would have never been able to experience. Choosing a job with consideration towards a person’s beliefs, morality and values helps to keep an individual interested in and satisfied from their work. Likewise, if someone has a job which contains all of their priorities, the will go to work with light steps and smiling. When he/she returns home from work, his steps will still be light and his mind full of satisfaction. However, someone whose job is unsatisfying will begin to hate their own life and the circumstances around it. Read More
