Extract of sample "Is the DSM-IV a Useful Classification System"

The DSM-IV includes a series of case studies, research reports, and clinical interviewing techniques; the content of the manual is elaborative and detailed with a background. The critics have objected and protested that the manual has failed to incorporate some mental disorders; it is important to understand that the contents of DSM-IV are limited to the scientific and medical research conducted prior to its launch, therefore, it is unjustifiable to challenge the applicability and scope of DSM-IV on such grounds.

The DSM-IV has offered possible solutions towards specific mental disorders, therefore the manual has provided a variety of solutions to resolve and handle a typical case of mental disorder. The critics have never challenged the contents of the manual; rather the discussion has been about the scope of the manual. The authenticity of the contents of the manual is based upon medical and scientific journals; therefore this manual is not the product of human imagination rather it has been evolved on the grounds of reality, evidence, successful resolution towards specific mental disorders, research, and development.
