SS357 Participation 3 “Normal” For this assignment I want you to write a 2.5-3 page paper (double spaced) discussing a few things: -How does a concept of “normal” affect the lives of transgender and intersex individuals? Normal affects the life of transgender in many ways. First and foremost, the issue is never just black and white. Some transgender people do not fit into either of these binary categories. . Transgender individuals have a hard time understanding their identity which can be problematic. The term normal creates a discrepancy because transgender individuals are still people. In a society, humanity is still prevalent regardless of organs. This black and white issues is prevalent because then gender roles are defined. For instance, take this scenario: Peggy, a ninth-grade student, describes herself as "a pretty good guitar player" and "an excellent math student who cant understand chemistry." She says shes "wild and extroverted" with friends in her band, yet is "shy and quiet" at school. Peggys self-description reflects. This was one of the greatest social experiments research came across with because it was a real interaction with a real girl that was not aware of her social stratifications or gender roles. She was with the boys in the toy’s section but was very oblivious to “how a girl” should act. Society has defined gender roles including the concept of ‘cult of domesticity.’ Women and men have defined social roles, which confused transgender people because they fail to understand their identity. The question remains- how do LGBT and transgender fit into this category? Gender roles is an intriguing subject that takes into account of several aspects. One can argue that gender roles emerge from culture due to various reasons. Cultures adhere to gender roles because they assign responsibilities to each gender based on family needs. For example, women in eastern cultures have to follow the cult of domesticity. The cult of domesticity is a generic phrase for women to stay at home, clean the house, cook the food, and raise the children. In this model, the men are the bread winners. The idea of gender disparity in school, government and overall progression of women is clearly hindered in these cultures. I saw both cases in which girls independently paid for themselves whereas some men took the initiative to pay for their significant other, showing strong sense of “breadwinner.” Identity is absolutely essential for transgender because they don’t have the epistemic feel to belong. Imagine an individual who cannot belong. This identity crisis is an essential element that transgender struggle to find in a very black and white society. Additionally, it holds the universal belief that all religious and ethics beliefs are substantial pertaining to a cultural identity. Relativism makes it evident that cultural upbringings are a substantial factor in shaping ethics of individuals. -How can we upset the concept of normal that affects the lives of transgender and intersex people? (I would highly advise using the readings from the past couple weeks to inform the “how”) Through the readings, we can upset the concept of normal because it misconstrues our understanding of it. Patricia Hill Collins and Foucault and Janet Holland gave you the methods for change. I want to see how you can use them. Research indicates that in moderns society, the emergence of diverse intersex have been monumental. The sample size of this probability in prior years was minimal. It is clear to say that physiology should not define normality in living population because these individuals do not control the development of their growth. The worse effect is the fact that these individuals develop self-esteem issues as they are not defined being normal. Milton Diamon, one of the most experienced intellectuals defines this isuse as a chronic one. These individuals feel that they are not normal, but in reality they are humans with emotions. Lesbians, Gays and transgender individuals have a rough understanding of self-esteem in such a modern society where judgment is inevitable. Additionally, society labels elements that are ridiculous by stating, ‘this is so gay.’ These statements can inevitably as this group goes beyond the gender expression. It skews the perception of normal, who have no control over their birth preferences. Ethics and morality are another issue that transgender must face because it’s not defined as normal. As a matter of fact, many religious have abolished the idea of transgender or have no similar notions to define it. The issue is that normality is attracted from religious morals in which homosexuality is banned. However, how does that one define one’s ethics or morality? Hormone therapy is not something that can rectify this issue as people transgender do not feel normal because of these circumstances. Religion also plays a big role because transgender individuals seek to be religious and sacred. However, they are confined to the black and white standards of normality as transgender must undergone severe nurture and nature development. Gradual development of character is conducted through nurture and nature. Children are developed through nurture and nature. Nurture and nurturing is essential for practical development. Assigning roles and responsibilities through giving tasks, obligations is a huge element that incites accuracy and sense of responsibility. When maturity hits from giving tasks through school and social development, this becomes a pivotal factor. Another huge element of normality is the fact that transgender are as viable to fall in love and emotion with another person. In traditional circumstances, a boy falls in love with a girl or vice-versa. In the case of a transgender, identity can be a huge crisis because there is a confusion to search for it. Hence, transgender individuals have a hard time developing interpersonal relationships because they may be labeled as ‘bi.’ This skews again the concept of normality because these individuals do not know what gender to be attracted towards. As a result, they are confused about their values, emotion, and to perception of real world. You have future interests in a particular field 2. Since gender is a basic component of human interaction, you should be able to apply one…or many more of the theories/findings from our class into your own work. My fascination with commerce has always incited me to pursue a career in business administration. I think my fascination with Business Administration began when I realized that there is a huge scope of putting business with technology together. It is clear that when a company develops and attempts to sell its products, customers must react how to react to these messages. Without a doubt, companies invest millions of dollars and time researching and understanding the customer demographics to understand their respective markets. In the field of e-commerce, it is essential to understand that women are underrepresented, which can make interactions interesting. Men are often developers, directors, and executives whereas women represent the realm of business analysts. Hence, gender relationships can be a sensitive element as one gender may feel difficult to work with another one. One of the most essential elements in midst of this discussion as noted by research was the idea of gender disparity that dominated in such a patriarchal society. Many women have no idea how to communicate effectively in a language, which creates a huge a gap to attract new jobs. Additionally, this prevents them to understand statutory laws, tax breaks, and getting the correct resources to facilitate their business. The idea of gender disparity in school, government and overall progression of women is clearly hindered in the growth for organizations. It is clear that the demographics of the age group are dissolved as change removes any continues to be exceptional because of the opportunities, firm belief in changing status quo, and diversity that it has celebrated over the centuries. An interesting study revealed that during men vs women of career choice indicates that women earn less than 78% of what men do. This becomes a prominent case because of affirmative action and gender discourse contradict these findings. One of the things in business analyst that is construed within largest context is gender communication. It is clear communication is a foundation for effective collaboration. Communication in team differs based on the personality. Communication in a team is more open to new ideas and discussion because different personalities are interacting within themselves on a constant basis. However, one-to-one communication means that it is unilateral in which a message is sent and received. In a larger scale of teams, messages can be lost and misconstrued which may be detrimental to the dynamics of the group. In corporate world, the aspect of sexual harassment also becomes a critical issue. It is clear that interaction between and women can be taken in a wrongful manner if the message is not portrayed across correctly. One-to-one communication can have many advantages as well because the message is not misconstrued. However it can be dangerous as well because body language and facial expressions can be analyzed instantly in a field mixed with demographics.. Communication in a can team can harness goals because the diversity of opinions that are present. In team work, appraisal and feedback system was another huge theories that were present in both methodologies. It is crucial to understand that giving feedback to employees that feel that they need to benchmark and leverage their standards. Understanding diverse opinions amongst teams is true because team members must embrace unanimity while diversity as it can break or make the team. Team effectiveness can positively influence the factors identified earlier-noting that the central mission will be on effective communication. Within the context of communication, development of interpersonal relations can be misconstrued in many ways. First and foremost, opposite gender colleagues can be scrutinized for creating personal relationships. In the corporate world, communication becomes extremely difficult and awkward. Hence, it should be stated to make business interactions as formal as possible. To understand if women in fact were misrepresented in the corporate world, I decided to do a project in affirmative actions. You will create either a project that “shows” how you are using these theories/findings to inform your work or you will create a paper explaining how it informs your work Although I found these ambiguities to be similar, my project composed of disproving that affirmative action actually works. Does it really equate to equal pay for both genders? That was my thesis of study as I executed my plan. Affirmative action is one of the most controversial topics that is widely debated in the modern century. The beginnings of affirmative action can be traced as far as the 1960’s. President Johnson himself proclaimed, “"[Affirmative Action] is the next and more profound stage of the battle of Civil Rights! We seek… not just equality as a right and a theory, but equality as a fact and a result…" The 1964 established the Civil Rights act which abolished discrimination in the workforce. Since the ending of WWII, minorities and women were continuously being denied of opportunities that could further enhance their growth. Affirmative action in essence means giving preferential treatment to diverse groups in society either for academic or employment purposes. These policies are targeted to combat discrimination that has plagued American societies for centuries, especially for women. Another key reason why the author points out indirectly is notion that minorities lack intellect and cannot achieve success through their own capabilities. Instead, they must be facilitated through legislation in order to help them reach a higher level. This outlook gives the perception that that the advancement of the minority must be given through affirmative action rather than work ethic and ability. While affirmative action is a bold attempt to atone the sins of past decades, affirmative action needs to be eliminated since it leads to preferential treatment, lowers standards for performance, and leads to reverse discrimination. My studies confirmed the fact that most gender related inquires that trickle to affirmative action were false.  Affirmative action has very little to do with gender equality. Gender equality has everything to do with cultural change. Conclusive research from my understanding proved that the notion women are underpaid is the half-truth. From a recent survey in an University, conducive research states that to calculate the salaries in which 64 white females and 27 white minority professors were also underpaid. However, the research also stated that 192 white male professors were also underpaid. Hence, the notion that gender inequality is the focal point was a premiere point of discussion and research. The notion that women get paid less than man is somewhat hypocritical and does not manifest itself in corporate America. It is evident that regardless of gender, each gender has a fair value of competing in a job and obtaining a higher salary. The gender bias is not an issue in a corporate world because some care for other priorities such as family over their career. Hence, my research proved these notions to be misconstrued. My research concluded is the fact that gender disparity in equal pay has circumstances. My project also confirmed that 40% of mothers have a taken days off the work for family or quit work to ensure a good family life. In contrast, males only take 24% off. Needless to say, the sample size is not is not a fair to compare circumstances to gender disparity. Although that may be true to a certain degree, it does not diminish the fact that a diverse classroom is derived from different opinions, not necessarily from a race context. It is wrong to assume that diverse classroom will promote more ideas since race has little to do with innovation. Some students that are not admitted based upon a merit status struggle to excel in their posts. For instance, an individual who gets accepted to systems analyst position at IBM, will continue to struggle if he does not understand the basics of management information systems. If that particular individual is not capable of handling the complicated tasks expected from him, then clearly he should not have been employed. The worst part is the fact that it has divided the country deeply in the issue as the flaws of this legislation are so deep that it gives an advantage to minorities. The whole notion of reverse discrimination is a huge flaw in the author’s logic because the author insists it opens new doors for opportunities. However, the author fails to address that it leads to preferential treatment. Imagine a scenario in which a Caucasian and a minority both apply for a high-qualification job. For the sake of the argument, the man is more qualified as he is a certified public accountant, has more job experience, and is skilled in particular software. On the other hand, a minority has lower qualifications, less qualification, and lacks in social skills. Now the dilemma the employer must face is—who deserves the position? Clearly, the Caucasian individual is well-suited and will tremendously benefit the company. From a personal perspective, this notion haunts a hiring manager. However, affirmative action protocols clash against the employer’s moral choice. The employee is forced to give the position to a less qualified individual. Although this occurs in a micro-level, one cannot argue that his performance could make a huge difference in the company’s overall performance. In the modern world, the difference of small percentage in margin revenue is critical. Thus, building a strong foundation of any organizations begins with its employees. Hence, the affirmative action rule is illogical since it disregards the value of qualifications based upon a minority status. Overall, my research proved my theory that gaps in gender stratification in the corporate world are not because of gender inequalities but because of different circumstances.
