Technology Over the years it is seen that the human beings have invented different sorts of instruments and appliances for their use. These new instruments and appliances have come to be known as the modern technology. Modern technology has been introduced in this world so that the hassles and troubles of the human beings can be minimized. However many argue here that technology is not making things easier for the human beings but is rather complicating them in different ways. The introduction of nuclear weapons, luxury items, television, computer and daily used appliances has become a target of these opponents. These opponents argue that technology is making things difficult for mankind and these problems would be felt in the latter years of life. On the other hand the proponents of technology argue that it is a blessing for the whole mankind as it is making things a lot easier for people. The question then remains “Is technology really affecting us adversely or not?” This essay would further address this question by revolving around the negative influence of technology on our daily lives. The introduction of internet and computers in our life has turned out to be joyful for many as individuals enjoy surfing and chatting on the internet. Internet not only helps one to surf and chat but also helps to find out useful information about different topics. But the opponents argue that internet has turned out to be a disaster for many. Experts on technology believe that excess usage of computers and internet makes one impulsive and forgetful in his daily life. Excessive usage of internet has been termed to be fall under the category of addiction. Different types of self assessment tests have been designed to check if one falls under the category of internet addiction or not. A study done by the researchers in the University of Melbourne showed that around 10% of the students were suffering from the problem of internet addiction and this clearly shows that people are wasting their time on the internet rather than doing something useful. Some term this addiction as internet dependence but this also has its negative effects as it is causing people to be distracted from their real life relationships. In other words internet is causing people to be distracted from education and family both at the same time. Cell phones also fall in the category of the internet as they seem to be causing dependence amongst the people too (Parker 2010). The introduction of nuclear power and nuclear weapons has also turned different aspects of the world. Nuclear power has helped countries to increase their capacity to generate energy so that the scarce resources can be preserved. However on the other hand the negative aspects of nuclear power are not being considered over its advantages. One of the most potential disadvantages of nuclear power is that it creates waste which can be harmful to the environment. Although the nuclear plants have a refining plant through which they reduce their waste but this refinery is not successfully able to contain the radioactive material inside the waste. The chance of accidents in these nuclear plants is also high and certainly causes high risk to the life of a human being. Similarly these nuclear power plants are also capable of producing enough plutonium every year so that nuclear warheads can be built (Swain 2007). Nuclear warheads are of serious concern to the whole society as they may be harming the society as a whole. In the World War II it was seen that the atom bomb was able to destroy a large area of Japan which harmed the integrity of the human race. These nuclear weapons have been a cause of concern for the whole world as they may fall in the hands of the wrong people. Nowadays even some of the third world countries like India and Pakistan possess these nuclear warheads. A study showed that the nuclear warheads in Pakistan are susceptible to being stolen by the terrorists. This clearly shows that the invention of nuclear weapons in the world was a huge mistake as it can cause even greater harm than it did in the World War II (Borger 2010). The introduction of media is believed to be a source of information for the whole society. It has helped the whole society to become integrated by transmitting information throughout the whole world. On the other hand the opponents of technology put forward the negatives of media on the upcoming generation. Video games are a form of media which are harming the society in different ways. With the introduction of video games it is seen that a lot of people are playing them. An observation shows that children between the age of 8 and 18 spend almost forty fours every week on any form of media. A research has found that a lot of children take inspiration from games and some even play games which are not meant for them. Adams (2010) found that 85% of the children play adult games which are not meant for them and this negatively influences their perception about violence and female body. It has been found that violence plays a great role in the growing age of a child. It is in this age that the child may get used to violent behaviors and games are proving to be a source through which these behaviors can be promoted. Hence the opponents argue that technology is negatively affecting the mindset of young people and this should be looked upon by the modernists. Automobiles are yet another source of convenience for the individuals these days. Automobiles have helped to ease the problems of transportation faced by the mankind. These automobiles have a comfortable environment for the people who are sitting in it. But on the other hands these automobiles have also proved to be a source of problem for the whole society. The automobiles use scarce resources so that they can function and this is causing serious concern for the whole mankind. Similarly it is also affecting the environment of the world by releasing harmful gases in the atmosphere. Carbon Monoxide is a poisonous gas released by the automobiles along with carbon dioxide. Carbon dioxide is a major constituent of the green house gases. It is also harmful for the human beings if taken in excess. Thus it can be concluded that while considering the advantages of automobiles the disadvantages should also be considered (Hauger & Musser 2007). The human race has become dependent on different forms of technology irrespective of the different problems that these pose on to the human beings. It has been seen that all types of advancements have some sort of negative influence on the human behavior and this should be controlled. Internet and cell phone usage should be limited so that a person does not get addicted to it. Nuclear power and weapons should also be limited and a nuclear free world should be created. Video games with violence should be discouraged in the society so that the upcoming generation is not affected. And lastly the automobiles should be used in an effective manner or a way should be sought out through which the harmful gases released by them are contained. References Haugen, D. M., & Musser, S.
