THE IMPACT OF VISUAL MEDIA Visual media has greatly impacted on the marketing of major brands thus rendering the traditional advertising platforms. Social media platforms such as Facebook, Pinterest, Twitter and Instagram have been the avenues used by businesses to display their wide range of products (Biagi, 2012). One of the advantage of visual media in marketing is the fact that pictures offers a short means through which effective communication can be attained, Pictures are like movie trailers hence they offer a snippet of what a given brand, product or a service is all about.

It thus saves people time to go and undertake window shopping. Marketers are able to direct and instant feedback from their products thus being able to make changes on their products as well as knowing where their target clients are located. On the social front, visual media has help promote interaction among people from various parts of the world thus promoting rapid sharing of positive ideas and programs. On the other hand, visual media can impact negatively on those exposed to it such as children.

This can take place when the content is violent or appear unethical. It may lead to depression, anxiety, nightmares or aggressive conduct (Baehr & Snyder, 2003).Some children may go to the extent of missing out from school, having sleeping problems or show general withdrawal syndrome. Some items posted for marketing may be different from what they actually look like hence online shoppers can be cheated. There are ethical concerns associated with this shift. There have increased the rate of unfair business operations that can take advantage of less sensitive business clients.
