Howard’s storyline expresses the rags to riches story of Braddock James and his wife. With this, this essay will delve into the comparison on whether the Cinderella man film has gone Hollywood or it presents reality. Further, focus will also be on the ways in which the director in the film could have applied in order to make the story in order to prevent it from going Hollywood and vice versa. The support of the claims presented in the essay will be through cinematic presentation and examples to substantiate the claims. 2. Archival research of James Braddock James Braddock was a fighter that gave up on his boxing career during the time of the Great Depression, but regained his ground in 1935 after working at the docks.

Braddock developed remarkable strength on his left hand as his hand experienced multiple injuries from the time that he was participating in bouts, but he had to give his fighting job to fend for his family during the time of the Great Depression. During his career, his wife Mae stood by him but she did not agree with the way boxing organizers for exploiting her husband’s winnings. . Essentially, this is in contrast with the Cinderella Man film where most facts about Braddock were accurate because of his American origin.

Therefore, when an athlete within a sports drama film is American, the cinematic representation is accurate as illustrated by director Howard. The Hollywood culture depicts that people with American origin can succeed and not other ethnic groupings as is the case of Ward whose origin is Irish. He later joined the US army, but Braddock dedicated his winnings to the returning the money that he received in order to support his family. 3. Cinematic presentation In Howard’s film, the cinematic portrayal is accurate in many scenes except for the last seen that Braddock’s becomes the owner of a heavy machinery company rather than worked for the US Army.

In many cases, film directors tend to lean the side of making their films to go Hollywood in order to retain the interest of the audience. Mostly, audiences do not realize this trick that sport film directors may use because most of them have no background information concerning the athlete in question in relating to his or her real life. This illustrates that some directors apply the Hollywood aspect to their films in order to retain viewer following hence explaining the reasons for Howard’s intentional omission.
