Quality Improvement Initiative al Affiliation: Quality Improvement Initiative The purpose of the project Provision of quality healthcare is a challenging responsibility that the health sector is assigned. The sectors have been experiencing various challenges that limit them from bringing out the best service to the society. Handling large numbers of people is the main challenge experienced by the medical team. The number of people demanding medical attention is higher than the available resources and labor force (European Working Conference on Electronic Health Records 2002). Due to the global economic constraints, it is necessary that the medical sector trys to make their available resources more effective so that the patients can receive better services. Health records are very important in the health sectors. All the people involved be it doctors, nurses, technicians or even the patients require the health records in one way or another. The high numbers of people being attended to have led to there being numerous health records which are in the form of sheets and files. Despite taking up a lot of space for storage, it becomes very difficult to trace the records when they are needed and hence crippling the effectiveness of the health sector (European Working Conference on Electronic Health Records 2002). I would like to propose that the health sector be provided with digital systems of data storage. This summary will discuss the usefulness of the digital systems of information storage in the health sector and how they will benefit the each team player in the sector. Implementation of the project will reduce the cumbersome experience of tracking down health records of an individual patient. The project will entail purchasing of computers and tablets which will be used to store records of patients. The project will also entail the creation of a network whereby all the information on one patient can be accessed by any medical officer in the hospital. The project will eliminate the analogue process of writing down information on hospital cards and passing them from one department to the other as the patient undergoes treatment in the hospital. Retrieval of health information on a patient will be easy and will be a guide to the doctors on the kind treatment to give to the patient when they come to the hospital a second time. Outpatient attendance will be fast since the information required to attend to them will be available on a single click. Doctors, technicians and nurses will not need to move from one department to another to make enquiries since the network system will ease communication. After full implementation of the project, provision of medical; service will be easy and the speed at which patients are attended will be faster (European Working Conference on Electronic Health Records 2002). Target population or audience The program is targeting all people in the medical sector. The doctors will be able to trace the health history of the patient if they have attended the hospital before. The records of outpatient will be easily accessible, and hence, the doctors will have an easy time while attending to the patients (Kowalski, 2009). The doctor will then send the instructions of laboratory testing to the laboratory technicians electronically as opposed to the normal writing. Upon testing the patient, the laboratory technicians will resend the information to the doctor through the network. The doctor will prescribe the kind of treatment the patient will receive and the information will be sent to the nurses and the people in charge of drug storage. The flow of information will be easy, and any clarification will be made through the network. Nurses will have information of every patient on their tablets such that they will give them drugs without having to refer to written records. The patients will be advantages since they will not be required to carry any written records from one department to the other. They will also not be required to remember certain information of their part medical history since all the information will be recorded electronically. Benefits of the program The program will help in improving the speed at which patients are attended to in the hospital. This will enable the hospital attend to many patients and solve the prevailing problem of insufficient medical attention (Kowalski, 2009). The accuracy of treatment to an individual patient will be boosted due to availability of digital records. The working condition of the medical team will have been upgraded, and they will feel motivated to provide high-quality services. The health sector works as a team since every department works towards one common goal. Having a network whereby there can share information and make enquiries will improve their collaboration towards achieving their goal and hence eventually effectiveness will be achieved. Cost and budget of the project The monetary value of the project is approximated to be about eleven thousand, five hundred dollars. The number of doctors, technicians and nurses is 55, and the project requires that each of them is provided with a tablet or computer depending on the position they are in. All the five doctors and 1o laboratory technicians will be provided with computers since their movement is limited. The 30 nurses in the various wards and departments will be provided with tablets due to their mobile job nature. The cost of the purchasing the machines is estimated to be about ten thousand dollars. The other amount will be spent on creating a network whereby information will be shared. The cost of installation of the machines is also inclusive in the total amount. Considering the expected outcome of the project the initial cost is insignificant. Project evaluation The evaluation of the project will be evaluated on the basis of the number of patients served as compared to the number of patients served before the project was initiated. A research will also be carried out the level of gratification of the patients with the new systems. A positive response from the patients will indicate that the program is effective while a negative response will show that the project is ineffective. A research will also be done on the medical team in the hospital and enquire on how the program is benefiting them, and hence, the information provided will be used to gauge the project effectiveness. Executive feedback form After sharing my proposal with a fellow nurse in the hospital, she was excited about the creativity in my project and hoped it would be implemented. She noted that the program would reduce the cumbersome data storage at the hospital and it would improve the speed of patient attendance. However she also noted that the budget was quite high considering the allocated funds to the health sector. She hoped that the project would be approved since it had a lot to offer to the hospital.
