Why do you think you fit in the Fund Raising Committee? Having worked in the Event-Planning department,I have the required marketing skills to steer CSSA to a sufficient funding base. These skills result from fluency in both Chinese and English languages. The need for this committee to work closely with E-board members calls for perfect computer skills. I being computer literate, I possess the necessary expertise to communicate cabinet’s needs to the E-board members. 2. Do you think fundraising for CSSA is equivalent to selling merchandise?

Fundraising for CSSA requires a different approach to that used in selling merchandise. These two aspects require different management structures. Selling merchandise lies on the sales department. Fundraising for CSSA requires ‘clear-cut’ marketing strategies. It involves marketing the product (CSSA in this case) in order to convince the respective sponsor to release funds. Merchandise is sold after a marketing process. Funds are received from sponsors when they are sufficiently convinced that the need is for a worthy course. 3. How would you manage the conflicts during sports competitions?

Good management of conflict relies on dealing with the conflict professionally and positively (Anheier, Helmut, and Yudhishthir p39). As a member of CSSA, I would employ the following management practices; to deal with conflicts. I would ensure that participants are aware of consequences that accompany rule infringements, I would provide structure and guidance at the beginning of the competition. This will be done through dialogue with the participants, I would remain objective to any situation that may arise, regardless of participants’/teams’ history.

I would enroll for training classes to understand what officiating requires. As an official, I would look and act sharp on any rule infringement. 4. What is your leadership style? I employ a participative/democratic leadership style. As a member of FRC, I would offer guidance to other members of the committee, and encourage them to participate in decision making. I prefer this style to the autocratic leadership style. Fundraising entails the association’s needs, and not personal needs. More ideas will be relayed by creating a level ground for all committee members.
